Ahead of the back to back home games with Notts County and Crawley we all knew, as did Rotherham, Wolves and Orient fans (gone a tad quiet from our East London brethren eh?), that anything less than a six point haul for the Bees could spell trouble or induce a wobble.
I agreed with the absolute ‘need’ to have come out of those matches with the maximum spoils – and it is great to wake up this morning happy, proud and yes… relieved.
The nine point gap looks a huge one for any rival to overhaul now – and Rotherham’s defeat to a weakened Sheffield United underlines what a great point ours was at Bramall Lane a week ago. No, the pressure’s not off Warburton’s men, but that pressure takes on a different form almost overnight.
The battle’s outcome is obviously the same – securing seven more points from the fifteen to play for puts Brentford in an unassailable position – however, it is unlikely we will need 93 points in my humble opinion – Rotherham’s players will know that the game is up this morning – as did Orient’s after we’d turned them over at Brisbane Road. It’s all about taking good form into the play-offs … Being positive rather than disappointed … and I hope the Millers go up that route as they have been the most impressive of the chasing pack.
No, the inspiration, the focus, the rallying cry must now be ‘let’s go for the crown’ … Let’s overtake Wolves and go up as Champions. Assume nothing.
Now that would be a fitting end to a fantastic season.

Peterborough away 1992 anyone?
good luck – you will need it to beat Wolves to the title. They wont let up either
Nothing will be assumed in the title run in and it looks like Brentford may well have secured promotion
. Have to say though your east London brothers deserve promotion too. Having played a very ordinary Brentford twice , Orient play the much better football
? How many Brentford games you watched then mate? Brentford play the finest football in the league hands down, hence the 10pt gap between us and orient, and wolves have orient and Rotherham to play yet. We can still easily pass wolves, if orient play the football you think they do!!
Genuine congratulations to you guys on a fantastic season. Promotion is well deserved and virtually in the bag for you. As a Wolves fan through I say with confidence you won’t be winning the title!
We shall see Lee you wise owl you! An interesting last few weeks regardless mate.
As a Wolves fan the results last night have given us promotion. 3 points at Crewe will see us up as Evans has admitted that it is time to take players out and rest them as they are out on their feet.I do hope Rotherham make it in the play offs as they are a good club with facilities way above this league. Promotion for us was a must this season and considering we had to rebuild from scratch, it has been a job well done. Easter will be a good time to be a Wolves fan, having Rotherham and Orient over the weekend. Its going to be so nice going to Orient on Bank Holiday Monday. Do i want to go on a win the league? Yes of course but the main priority was getting out of this division. We have had to put up with everyones cup final and the way they raise their games against us but we have overcome it. Time to relax and enjoy the run in.
The point you got @ Sheff Utd was 2 less than the Wolves took by spoiling their Birthday celebrations. It was a little bit like our trip to you where we took a point a goal. Good luck and I hope you go up but don’t be deluded where the trophy is heading.

I really don’t get this talk of promotion when it’s not in the bag. Sure, I appreciate and admit it’s likely, but say we lose against Swindon, Preston then come to GP and we lose that one. MK Dons then beat us, and if Rotherham win their next 3 games, then they’re ahead of us.
We’re pretty poor away from home at the moment, and whilst it’s unlikely, it’s not beyond the depths of reality that we could lose our next three games and Rotherham win their next three.
What gives me hope is that we did play well against Sheff Utd, we are unlikely to lose the next three games, but, it isn’t unrealistic either. For me, we just need to keep focussing on putting in big performances one game at a time, and aim to pick up as many points as possible to keep Rotherham at arm’s length.
All this talk of the title is premature in my opinion. Of course, after Swindon, my opinion will change if we pick up a draw or a win, and/or Rotherham drop points. Swindon is, for me, the key game. Maybe I might breathe a little easier if we can deal with Swindon first.
The piece says that nothing is taken for granted… The gist is supposed to be that the title should be the prize to spur us to kick on from here… Not presume anything or relax
Get promoted first boys and worry about being champions for later.I’m a lifelong,long-suffering Wolves fan and seen us cock things up so many times so even now I can’t relax.Remember last minute, last game, last year? Nothing could go wrong could it? I really hope the Bees make it for my late friend Eddy Walker and whoever are champions will have earned it.Good luck.
Laney,
It seems that this week turned the tide, as you said. Because of the Brentford win coupled with the Rotherham loss, Wolves are now only 3 points out of reach.
And with Wolves losing to a “weakend” Sheffield team, it now raises a significant question:
Will Wolves be able to beat Rotherham and Orient in back-to-back matches? Those matches are now HUGE!
With each Brentford match result, it now seems that fans will be either looking up or down.
It’s kind of like when you are driving down the road. If you’re going fast, you need to see what’s up ahead.
If the Bees keep going fast (i.e. winning), fans only need to look up. Then, things will take care of themselves, and maybe a title could be in the future.
Come on you Brentford!

Laney,
Last Saturday’s Brentford win coupled with Wolves and Rotherham losses seems to have changed the focus. As you said, Brentford fans should now be looking up at Wolves instead of looking down to Orient and Rotherham.
The top of the table is in striking distance. Wolves lost to a “weakened” Sheffield United.
The most significant question that seems to have emerged will be answered in a few weeks:
Will Wolves be able to beat Rotherham and Orient in back-to-back matches?
Rotherham has several potential roadblocks that are must-wins if they hope to make up the 9-point deficit.
All of this is moot for Brentford’s hope of automatic promotion if Brentford continues to win.
When driving fast, you need to look up ahead to see where you are going. Continue driving fast Bees and there will be no need to look in the rearview mirror.
And there may even be a prize at the end of the rainbow.
Come on you Brentford!

Well telboy……. As I maintain orient won again and er you got beat by a very average Swindon team…oh dear. Looks like mr. Warburton should stick to making bread. Don’t worry tel, you will limp over the line….where was the “finest football in league 1 ” today???
