Now that the dust has settled on another year, Beesotted’s janitor @thecondorman reflects on the past season:
Nobody at Brentford High School expected the level of change we saw last summer, with several key pupils, the head teacher and many staff departing – plus of course there was a well-documented snake that escaped from the biology lab.
Some were surprised when Mr Andrews stepped forward to lead the school, particularly given that he had never been a headmaster before, but his calm strategic brain and strong personal skills saw him deliver a memorable first year. He has proven many external “experts” wrong.
It was a shame that the school trip to Europe had to be cancelled on the last day, but the board of governors remain confident that this will take place sometime soon.
Pupil reports:
Caoimhin Kelleher – an impressive start to life at the school, he took very little time to settle although some teachers do struggle with his first name. A bit punchy at times in the playground.
Rico Henry – always gives his all and is a cult pupil at the school. Was off sick for the entire end of year, which was a shame because he had just started to deliver strong grades once again.
Sepp Van Den Berg – good at most subjects but occasionally struggles in one-on-one assessments. Quite tidy when sitting in his desk at the back of the room but makes a right mess at the front of the class, often missing the bin from close range when it’s much easier to hit the target.
Kris Ajer – a tall lad and a talismanic pupil who really wants to impress, Kris delivered an excellent project on the Vikings and been rewarded with a trip to summer camp in America. Came into his own during the winter term but seemed to fall out of favour a bit with Mr Andrews in the spring after being overheard making a joke about his hair during assembly.
Nathan Collins – the head boy has had a mixed year. Has good ability but gets a bit excitable and sometimes wanders randomly around the classroom which unsettles those around him. Looks quite hard to sit next to at times.
Michael Kayode – a brilliant pupil with an incredible future ahead of him. Has boundless energy in lessons and is excellent at throwing out books at the start of lessons, sometimes into adjacent classrooms, or even adjacent schools. Suffers the odd rush of blood to his head due to his age. Always eats spaghetti at lunchtimes and drinks something out of a label-less brown glass bottle which he assures us is Italian barley water. The other boys circulated a social media video after he got his girlfriend pregnant, but the incident has not affected his work in class.
Keane Lewis Potter – a dependable pupil who has grown in popularity and seems happier in class. Moved to Rico’s seat when the former was off sick and delivered some outstanding work. Useful to have around the school and has real prefect potential.
Jordan Henderson – a mature student, who has been largely reliable, but probably hasn’t delivered the same level of performance as former pupil Christian Norgaard (who didn’t take part in much PE at his new school but did enjoy a bus tour around London recently). Jordan is off to summer camp, which is a surprise to some. Blotted his copybook at the end of term outing to Liverpool where he seemed to forget which school he goes to.
Mathias Jensen – cut a frustrated figure at the start of the year but has seemed to thrive under Mr Andrews overall. A classy student with beautiful handwriting and a real eye for art, ‘Matti’ is still prone to the occasional disappointing lesson where you forget he is present. Should still be at the school next year, but his longer-term future looks uncertain currently. Can go days without smiling but nurse says there’s nothing to be concerned about.
Yehor Yarmoliuk – this boy has really improved in lessons this year with his tireless appetite for hard study benefitting those around him. Looks set to become an important member of the class. Spends his lunchtimes doing laps of the playground. Which he also does before and after the school day. And at weekends.
Vitaly Janelt – Vitaly has always concentrated hard in class, and his firm handwriting often leaves a deep mark engraved on the desk below his book. Vita has really blossomed creatively this year, showing that he is capable of becoming a star pupil. He unfortunately missed a large part of the spring term when we really needed him to be in school. Some credit must go to Mr Andrews for his development.
Mikkel Damsgaard – last year’s star pupil hasn’t hit the same overall levels of performance but still glides through his work with aplomb. Looks as though he’s had a bit less sleep this year – perhaps the graffiti on the toilet wall about him being another lad who has fathered a child is true.
Kevin Schade – Kevin can put in a real shift in lessons but his output is completely unpredictable. Quite often barges into other student’s seats and trips over table legs whilst looking increasingly frustrated. He does however do a lot of hard work to support his classmates which is sometimes overlooked. Might choose to return to a European Academy this summer.
Igor Thiago – what a fabulous and happy pupil. Igor has delivered well above expectations and is a pupil already admired by other schools. Has the chance to show off his talent at summer camp in America, which will only grow his reputation. Hopefully he is still around to help fundraise for our own European tour next year. He’s indestructible, apparently. RE and PE are his favourite subjects.
Dango Outarra – much was expected of Dango when he joined the school, and he has generally settled in well, without quite hitting the heights of former student Bryan Mbeumo. Works hard and delivers some technical work, hopefully next year we will see him scoring wherever he goes. He was absent from school during the winter term after a family trip to Africa and on the field trip to Stratford he tried to pull off a silly stunt he had seen on YouTube which went badly wrong in front of the class. Hopefully he’s learn from that experience.
Other pupils:
Hakon Valdimarsson – a reliable deputy prefect.
Aaron Hickey – missed a lot of term again but off to summer camp in America. Might move to a more central desk in coming years after looking comfortable there recently.
Ethan Pinnock – a school stalwart but rarely seen in lessons.
Josh Dasilva – only does really good homework. Got a big ovation when returning to class recently.
Reiss Nelson – exchange pupil who few of the other lads recognise, had a disappointing year.
Romelle Donovan – a young pupil who already has a cult reputation. More to come.
