The last 7 days has brought much to talk about with a player charged for racial abuse, new technology on its way, more injury concerns and a well fought away win that surprised many.
Last Wednesday it was announced that Burton Albion defender Ben Turner had been charged by the FA for abusing a Brentford player in an incident during Brentfords 2-1 home win over the Brewers in December at Griffin Park.
NORTHWALESBEE: This will have been why there was that big flair up in the 88th minute. Didn’t do us any harm did it considering they were chasing the game.
SUPER J: I wonder if it was Yennaris which might explain why he took him out with that late challenge near the end which sparked that little brawl?
WESTWING: Will be a proper Brentford turnout at their place next month,
he’ll get dogs abuse.
KEVALUTONBEE: I know there are precedents ie Terry, Shelvey etc but presumably the FA will take this as seriously as these incidents and Macca’s indiscretion
A major step forward has been taken in the Championship as all 24 clubs along with the EFL agreed that goal line technology will be put in place at all grounds in the division ready for use in the 2017/18 season.
This news would have caused relief among all championship fans as it will stop uncertainty among incidents which could cost teams the big prizes of the division.
GBEMS92: Makes sense when in a way teams in the championship have just as much to gain or lose as teams in the prem. Imagine a goal that crossed the line not being given cost us promotion and all the money that comes with it.
BRENTFORD_TILL_DIE: important for all leagues, who funds this though is it the EFL or does the club have to itself?
IANALLON: Interesting that some news reports saying that it probably will not be hawkeye, but something similar/cheaper. I wonder whether everyone in the championship will have to have the same when it is introduced? As obviously some Prem/Champ teams will swap leagues next season.
Tuesday night Brentford faced a tough visit to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday. Brentford have found it hard on the road this season as prior to the match, they hadn’t got 3 points anywhere north of Birmingham. The Bees went into this game against the play off contenders as firm underdogs.
However the game that followed would have come as a surprise to most onlookers. Dean Smith’s side – that included no natural striker and debutant Rico Henry – found themselves 2-0 up at half time.
In recent weeks you could say the inexperience of this Brentford team has led to crumbling defensively and throwing away leads therefore losing out on a significant number of points.
Many Brentford fans would have been worried of a reoccurrence in Sheffield. But the team played very organsied football, the defence stood firm and keeper Bentley pulled off a series of miraculous saves to hold out (as was discussed on the Beesotted Pride of West London podcast below).
Wednesday did score a late consolation which gave fans a scare.
The final whistle gave Bees fans a sweet feeling of relief whilst triggering celebrations on the terraces with players being congratulated on their performance – Dan Bentley and Harlee Dean receiving much of the plaudits.
Josh McEachran was stretchered off during the game. We are yet to know the extent of his injury but we hope its not as bad as first thought and Josh makes a speedy recovery.
We finish off on some news of former Brentford player Scott Hogan. The forward who spent 2 years at the Bees injured before hitting some great scoring form was sold to Aston Villa in the recent January window for a fee that could rise to £15 million.
On Monday night he went off after being baldly injured against Newcastle and looks to be out for a lengthy period.
Unlucky for Hogan to go through this once again. Hopefully he recovers quickly.
It has been a week that has given a lot of talking points and a great Brentford win.

I welcome goal line tech as it introduces some much needed assistance to the match officials, if the ball is/isn’t over the line, a correct decision can be made.
What still needs addressing is the standard of refereeing in The Championship. This impacts the club’s far, far more than the ‘was it/wasn’t it’ over the line incidents, which to be honest, are very few and far between. We have seen some extremely poor match officials, including linesmen, at GP recently. I sit in the New Rd and some of the linesmen have missed offside calls and could, obvious to all, except them, when they haven’t been looking across the pitch, but looking at the play, sometimes 40-50 yards up the pitch. The speed of modern players then looks like they are onside, when, by the time the linesman looks across, the defenders make it look like the forward is onside. Basic officiating gone wrong. Keith Stroud, for example, is a very poor ref, his decisions appear to me as if he enjoys making controversial incidents in Bees matches, for example, the non-award of a penalty at Reading, when Canos was shoved, two handed to the deck, an obvious pen to even the Reading fans, that could have made it 1-1 at half time and completely changed the dynamic of the match, given that we were in total charge at that time.
I would really welcome some form of 4th official tv monitoring a la Rugby/cricket etc, this would assist in the right decision being made. Which decisions would they be involved in? Certainly some penalty award decisions, or obvious decision the match referee did not see, example, Arsenal’s first ‘goal’ v Hull recently, where the ball was handled over the goal line, similarly if a defender handles the ball and prevents it crossing the line etc etc. bring it on, as fair minded sports fans, and we mostly are, we want the correct decision to be given, they would even themselves up over the season. I could only imagine what the reaction would have been, if the goal at Arsenal resulted in a 1-0 win, relegating Hull and giving the Prem title to Arsenal, or any other club……

Bentley had a great game, but second half under the cosh , with Sawyers almost giving it away at the end, with a bad, lazy pass behind Jota, which led to the final Wednesday attack and a last ditch save.
Great result; had some luck , this time.
