Pressure on former Bees manager Uwe Rosler seems to be mounting at Wigan after his side’s poor start to the season. Defeat at Bounemouth last weekend, which followed a midweek reverse at home to Ipswich, has lead to rumours of a ‘lost dressing room’, and some fans even suggesting that he will be dismissed before Brentford’s visit to the DW Stadium on October 18.
Reading through the threads on popular Vital Wigan message board underlines that fans are divided – and from the outside looking in – this seems a very similar situation to the post-Stevenage showdown last season while he was still with the Bees as we wrote in this article.
Rosler was a popular manager at Griffin Park and his part in the rise of our club cannot be forgotten… And, just like most former staff members and players, we hope that they go on to success after leaving Griffin Park and keep one eye on their progress, or otherwise.
I personally hope things work out for Rosler at Wigan, but you can’t deny that there seem to be some testing times ahead for him this week.

I’m a Wigan Athletic supporter and have to reply. Last season the constant changing of the side by Rosler was accepted due to vast number of games, with League, play offs, FA Cup and UEFA cup all demanding on the squad. This season however, we have no such demands. Yet, every single match he changes the team and the frustration at seeing it is doing my head in. We beat Birmingham 4-0 he changes the team. We lose to Ipswich, he changes the team. It’s like he doesn’t know his best 11 which is bad considering how long now. Against Ipswich we were woeful, one of the most boring, inept and careless displays I’ve ever seen by a Wigan team. Strangely, players involved in The FA Cup triumph over Man City can’t even make the starting 11. We spend millions on players, put them on the bench and continue with the same crap who couldn’t score goals last season.
I want Uwe Rosler to succeed and was delighted when he signed, every game last season the noise from the home end chanting his name was great. This season so different.
His acknowledgement last season was also great, applauding fans, waving and even bowing before us. First game this season, no response in asking for a wave, no applause or anything.
Strangely last season also had the players on Twitter interact with fans etc, yet this season absolutely nothing.
Don’t know what it is, just something’s not right.
Interesting comments Carl. I recently came across this article on a Wigan Websites from last season. It seems that some of the issues that Rosler had at Brentford are being repeated at Wigan. He also had a team of people working around him at Brentford which people seem to forget.
We’re naturally gutted he poached Forshaw but we’ve moved on and we don’t wish the fella any bad. He’s a decent chap and potentially a good manager. He’s still a lot to learn though. And maybe going to Wigan has been a bit of a wake up call that things weren’t so bad where he was as we allowed him to make mistakes and learn.

I don’t blame Rosler,I blame Whelan. We have in eight years of being in the Premier League had money which adds to 240 million pounds,2 years of paracute payments,so why have we still sold all are best players and bought rubbish that can’t score goal’s even if the nets where 2miles wide.We have one decent centre half, one decent midfielder, and no proper striker.Money pinching Whelan all over.
As a wigan fan I totally agree with the above comments ,when push comes to shove whelan refuses to spend any of the money we have inherited from all or any of the transfers over recent years ,Valencia, palacios,n zog ,mc car thy,mc carthur ,but to name a few, where has all this money gone ,only the other week he said any transfers made the money has gone back to purchase players, yeah we get 15 million then are allowed to purchase players for £1 or 2 million, not had a centre forward now for years buying Spanish and French second rate, also rosler too blame he inherited a good squad decimates it then doesn’t know what to do with players he has brought in,never mind promotion we going to end in relegation battle with all his swapping and changing, rant over wish whelan could read this as most supporters are in agreement…fed upppppppppp..
As a Brentford fan i see a similar happening at Wigan as we had at Griffin Park, at first he had a good following from the fans and they used to chant his name and he would clap back to the fans. He never played the same team each week even when we had a great result and if we went 60 minuetes without a substitution there was something wrong. At the clubs fans meeting with Rostler he was asked if it was true he had applied for the Wolves job prior to Kenny Jacket he stated he had not but after it came out in the local paper that he had so you might not need to sack him if it suits him he will just go. We will be mob handed on October 18th to greet the man himself.
Uwe loved tinkering with the team when he was at GP. Gave the impression of trying to be too clever for his own good. A mini player revolt after defeat at Stevenage forced more consistency in his selection and better results. But he was still way too cautious for my liking, always the type to try and sit on a lead rather than go after another goal. He was also unable to maintain his rapport with the crowd when results went against him and a few moaned. Made him look a bit arrogant.Don’t see him as a Premiership manager.
According to a drinking pal of his who I bumped into in Ealing the other day this is all just a blip, Whelan’s behind him and all will be better when Kernaghan returns from his holidays!
As a Wigan fan I am disappointed to read the above negative comments re:Whelan. A lot of fans are not aware of how much it costs to run a football club. Whelan has Wigan in his heart and has been bankrolling the club for years. He will not want us to do a “Portsmouth” which is why we will never spend millions on players. Supposedly Wigan fans (not supporters) were known to watch our games (in the premiership years) in pubs rather than support their team at the ground where our match tickets were the cheapest around . Sad but true.
