John Egan’s expected transfer from Gillingham to Brentford seems to have stalled over the compensation valuation of the defender, who is now out of contract at the Kent club despite being offered improved terms.
The Gills are able to demand money for Egan as he is under 24, however, the eventual fee looks likely to be set by a transfer tribunal if the two clubs can’t shake hands before that stage – a similar situation to when Will Grigg joined us from Walsall.
If that is the case, the Professional Football Compensation Committee will formulate a transfer fee that takes into consideration compensation for training and development, and the figure they decide upon is non-negotiable.
The Bees will be keen to have the situation settled so that Egan is available to start training when the squad re-assembles in July, and Dean Smith has the opportunity to rotate his defending options – with record signing Andreas Bjelland also expected to be back competing for a first team start as he hopes to re-start his Brentford career.

canos is the major target and it looks as though the Bees have been too slow to sign a deal or they don’t want to pay even though they have the extra cash from the Burnley sales.
The fee being mentioned for Canos was £4m-plus which prices him out of our range unfortunately we would imagine
REPORTS QUOTE A FEE OF £2.5M and we all know he wants to come back to GP, stop burying heads in the sand, we are a championship club and have received circa £15m from Burnley for two of our players, time to spend it on proven talent and not waste it on speculation. What did we think he would cost for heavens sake !!!!
Stop mucking about Brentford and sign up one of the best young talents in the Country / EU – Sergi Canos! Please don’t let him end up at Bristol City
Two seasons ago people said Pritchard could not be replaced, now there is the suggestion that Canos may be a massive gap to fill. Well, there are close to 22 outstanding footballers that will take Brentford to the Promised Land of EPL and it is not the most outstanding talent that will get Brentford there – it will be the quality of the ‘weakest’ players. Therefore why pay too much in transfer fees or too much in wages, when it would upset the balance of a team. Also, never underestimate the quality of the recruiting policy of Brentford as the past few years have shown.
Last season there were acknowledged mistakes, wrong Manager to start the season, too many new (overseas) players, too many injuries, poor pitch, unsettled players post Warbs, etc, and still Brentford were almost playoff contenders.
Lets not focus on what we do not have, but instead focus on what we have at Griffin Park and what can be controlled because it is quite sensational.
I wholeheartedly disagree
I ALSO TOTALLY DISAGREED WITH THIS ROSE TINTED VIEW
