Brentford have officially announced the signing of midfielder Romaine Sawyers, who joins the club from League One Walsall. The deal has been widely expected for months, with the player’s name mentioned frequently on the Pride of West London Beesotted Podcast since around Easter.

Sawyers played a key role on The Saddler’s promotion bid last campaign, and was in impressive form during 2015/16 and is well known to Bees’ manager Dean Smith who of course was in charge at the Banks’s Stadium before taking over at Griffin Park.

Brentford fans will welcome Romaine as we look forward to a third season in the Championship and hope the players can help get the season off to a solid start – it will be fascinating to see how he slots in to the squad.

Meanwhile, Jake Bidwell looks to be heading out of Griffin Park in a £1.3m deal with local rivals QPR – it has been known that the Bees’ captain has been looking to pastures new over the close season and the prospect of retaining the full-back within the current Brentford wage structure became too big a stumbling block.

Brentford fans will wish Bidders well in his future career – shame the move had to be to Loftus Road though.
