We bring you the 2nd part of the Beesotted Best and Worst of Brentford’s 2014/15 season survey. .
Home and away drinking holes
One thing we’re proud about being a Brentford fan is … despite many ‘bigger’ clubs labeling us #tinpot, pretty much every away fan that comes to Griffin Park cites Brentford as their best away day. One of the key factors for this is the plethora of pubs in the manor – all lively, no bouncers on the doors and away-friendly.
In the battle of the Best Brentford Matchday Boozer, The Griffin (29.6%) and The Globe (28.8%) were neck and neck – The Griffin winning by the narrowest of margins – a mere 0.5%.
Fans said of The Globe said:
Brentford pub through and through. Great vibe, staff and patrons. Nice touch on game days with staff wearing bees kits.
And of The Griffin:
Shows all the decent matches on the telly before the game,. Not too packed that you can’t move but not too empty that there’s no atmosphere. Reasonable amount of away fans in there too.
The Lord Nelson, home of the ‘players and fans post promotion party last year’ came in 3rd (9.3%) with the Princess Royal 4th and New Inn 5th. Of the other pubs recommended, The Express Tavern at Kew Bridge also got a fair few mentions.
For the away pubs, we tried to steer away from pubs ‘designated’ by the police and home clubs – trying to pluck out away pubs with a wee bit of character. The Dukes Head in Fulham (29%) was voted Best Away Pub. Naturally when you bring over 6000 fans to an away game and win 4-1 then one of the more popular drinking dens on the day will figure highly. But to be fair, it was a very good vibe in that boozer.
The excellent Twisted Lip in Boro (12%), expanded since our last visit – now it feels like you are drinking in TWO living rooms – came in 2nd with The Coach and Horses, Norwich a close 3rd and The Lord Nelson in Brighton in at 4th.
The runaway winner of the Best Beesotted video was the .. to the post match ecstacy. The – a frank discussion with the manager and his assistant about the Warburton-gate affair- was voted in 2nd place with 19%.
The Best Beesotted Video Moment was the. Bees fans singing in the final 15 minutes of the in 2nd (20%) whereas by a rather drunken individual who then went to walk into a lamp-post came in 3rd (15%).
Beesotted launched its podcasts at the beginning of the season – a 10 minute post-mortem of the Boro 4-0 away defeat on the train home being uploaded and getting thousands of listens in a couple of days prompted us to do more.
The most popular Beesotted Pride of West London Podcast was the (25%) which narrowly beat the (23%) – a discussion on the price of football which revolved around Norwich’s ludicrous £35 ticket price for visiting Bees fans. Other well received podcasts included the and the Rasmus Ankerson interview (on BBC radio 5).
One podcast, which was submitted AFTER this survey was launched looks like it is heading to be the most popular podcast of the season – the Beesotted end of season podcast with more listeners than many a DAB radio show. Check it out here.
Beesotted Player of The Season
Toumani Diagouraga won the Beesotted player of the Season. Both he and David Button polled 6 votes each over the season by the fans in the weekly vote. However, Toums received more 2nd place votes than Button – therefore giving him the booty.
Jota came in 3rd place with 4 votes. Gray, Pritchard and a last minute gallop to the finish line by Dean saw them all in 3rd place with 3 votes.
Interestingly, although Pritchard may have ‘only’ got 3 MOM awards, he also received eleven 2nd place positions – showing he was regularly there or there abouts regarded as the best player on the pitch this season.
Best pre and post match pub in brentford
The Globe
The Griffin is my usual choice but the Globe is livelier and has a better selection of barmaids
It’s managed to stay a good pub for Brentford fans. The Griffin, which I used to love, has become too away fan friendly & lost a lot of its atmosphere.
Brentford pub throughout. Great vibe, staff and patrons. Nice touch on game days with staff wearing bees kits.
Quick service, London Pride, good mix of away fans and home fan bants
The Griffin
I’ll stay loyal – it’s my normal local and I love drinking in the shadow of the ground
Claire & Gerhard would bar me if they found out I hadn’t voted for them
Fullers…….
Showed all the decent matches on the telly before the game, not too packed that you can’t move but not too empty that there’s no atmosphere. Reasonable away fans went there too.
The Royal Horseguardsman
Nice small place to get a pint in before and after game. Never a hint of trouble and best tv in pub I’ve ever seen to watch matches before and after our own game.
The Lord Nelson
Close call between The Nelson and The Globe. Just prefer The Nelson as no plastic glasses and better food and toilet facilities.
The Express tavern
Selection of beer, price, record player, landlord
The Hive
Friendly atmosphere
Best away pub this season
Dukes Head, Fulham
All away fans really. We completely took over the pub
Twisted Lip, Boro
Good mix of fans, reasonably priced too.
Good weekend good pub
Great craic with Boro and Bees fans enjoying a laugh and beers together.
Lord Nelson, Brighton
Good spot and nice staff
Coach and horses. Norwich
Didnt bother what fans you were were, very welcoming
Relaxed environment
Brunswick, Derby
Great beer and people. Proper, proper pub
Spotted horse Fulham
Atmosphere was good! No trouble between both fans! All very welcoming and had a great laugh!!!
Best/most fun Beesotted video this season
Boro away playoffs
Just summed up the good work that you do getting a balanced view where possible
Celebration and love for the team after a winderful season, despite the disappointment of defeat
Showed how the fans love this club
Because we actually got to the playoffs i went and it was a good day out even though we lost and plus ur video was great!
Fulham
Best away result of the season, vid was a reflection of that.
Again best atmosphere
The Fulham Raider
Blackpool away
The muppet you spoke to beforehand made it for me. What a clown!!
Mark Warburton and David Weir interview
Open and honest
Great insight from 2 relaxed chaps
It showed just how bloody good Beesotted are as a social media outlet. Very professional and good humoured under the circumstances
Excellent interview at a very difficult time. Beesotted became the go to place for the most accurate information
It came at a time when we desperately needed to hear from the club about what had happened and how the season might go. Warbs was an utter professional. So sad to lose him. What a gentleman.
It was so open and honest. I learned a lot. Well done.
Blackpool away
The twat vidio still gets me now … & Fulham away
Best Beesotted video moment
Blackpool – “Twats”
Laughed out loud
Jota in the last minute – Fulham home
Still get goosebumps
Was just brilliant
To secure a win over our London rivals in the last minute was the icing on the cake to a very good performance!!!
Cos in a moment of madness I ran on the pitch and hugged him after he scored 🙂
Fans greet players off train from Wigan
It showed the players how passionate our fans are
Bees fans singing last 15 mins at Boro
Total togetherness, all in this together, what a season
Mr lamp post was hilarious. But the emotion and passion captured at Boro does it for me
Fulham away
Never in all the time I’ve been going to brentford have I experienced something like that. It was special moment for anyone there
The wigan (h) pitch invasion & singing after we found out we had made playoffs
Sheer overflow of joy. Why would Bees fans in tears be good? A since 92 sky invention to cry after a match you’ve failed in. No place in football for sh!t like that.
Because it was a wonderful moment and the video caught this perfectly
Best Beesotted “Pride of West London podcast
Warburton and Weir inteview
Very good insight into running of club
Good to hear from them why things were going to change and that they were going to keep going until the season ended.
As before, topical and searingly honest
Very interesting listening to the direction the club are headed. Exciting times ahead!
Helped everyone to understand better what was going on and reassured us that season was not about to derail big time.
Tony Parks interview
Tony Parks is a legend
Norwich £35 ticket protest
‘Nailed it’ debate, away fans are having a bad deal…….the fa should sit up and take notice and listen to this podcast capturing all the salient and relevant issues….and then change the regulations/rules on away fan pricing, there is no justification for pure greed, norwich, when compared to Wigan’s exceptionally cheap £15 ticket. Kept campaigning guys…….twenty is plenty.
Important to make a stand
It’s all about standing up for genuine fans -away fans in particular. Without them the atmosphere in most games would be rubbish
