Queens Park Rangers boss, and former Brentford reject, Ian Holloway, has spiced things up ahead of this weekend’s West London derby with a fresh string of comments that clearly show how much a win against the Bees means to him at the end of another disappointing campaign at Loftus Road.
Brentford have outplayed Queens Park Rangers twice this season already, and will be looking to make that three times at the weekend as Dean Smith’s side set about reeling in an, albeit unlikely, play-off place… however, Holloway has vowed to “chase them until they make mistakes” and “fire them to do all sorts of stuff” at Griffin Park on Saturday having already, bizarrely, admitting he rested two players from the Preston North End home defeat so they would be fresh for Brentford.
Quite what Rangers fans make of his latest quotes we will find out on this week’s Pride of West London Podcast, but to admit that; “I rested one or two to play in that game – and we’ve got to get about them like our life depends on it.” does seem laughable.
Holloway added; ““We’ve got a local derby coming up. I can’t wait to get over there and absolutely chase them until they make mistakes… “We’re going to try and beat them. It’s about time we did. I haven’t done it since I’ve been back so it’s about time we did that.”
“Well done to them for the style that they play, but we’re going to try and stop them playing and force them to do all sorts of stuff.”
Despite two-last gasp injury time goals in November’s 2-2 draw at Loftus Road, Brentford will be confident of continuing their fine run against Rangers: 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat is an impressive haul since our return to the Championship, with Brentford finishing above QPR in the league table in each of their four seasons in the second tier.
Scuppering our potential play-off chances also seems to be exciting envious Holloway, who has a long history of spouting clap-trap about the Bees; “If they are good enough to do it (make the play-offs) then well done to them, but let’s try and make it a local derby that we can remember for a long time.”
He’s talking like the weekend’s game is Queens Park Rangers’ cup final, and as funny as it reads for Brentford fans, I’m not sure the QPR hardcore will be at all happy about him admitting how Brentford have now become a big scalp to their manager.

Dave , as you say getting in the play-offs is unlikely but if we can get the 9 points available the remaining fixtures for the 6 teams above us give us every reason to be optimistic.
Opinion has been given on the podcasts, that until we move to Lionel road we will not ready to go up. To me this is like a newly married couple waiting until they can afford it before having kids , they’ll never have any. It could be that half a season at GP could work in our favour. From where we are we have to give it our best shot.
What has disappointed me is the premiership vetoing the VAR for at least next season. I know there is mixed feelings for the introduction of VAR but I am one of the many who feel that the big clubs get the rub of the green with 50/50 decisions, and as well as hopefully getting the decisions right it will some-what level the playing field
