Brentford will take on local rivals Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road this evening keen to get a morale-boosting win under their belts after a lack-luster start to the season results wise – and it will be interesting to see how strong a side Dean Smith will pick to achieve that.
Whether or not a League Cup run is a priority for the Bees gaffer, or not, the fact that local pride is added into the mix with his side propping up the Championship League table may persuade him to commit to more of an A team selection. After all, the only victory so far has come against AFC Wimbledon, and that took extra time to eventually achieve.
With over 2,000 Brentford fans heading to Loftus Road tonight, it is clear that the game is being taken seriously by supporters, and there is an expectation that tonight’s clash isn’t too experimental – which I’m sure won’t be lost on Smith in light of recent results. The management team and players will want a victory every bit as much as we do, I’m sure.
Rangers will also be desperate to make amends for losing home and away to Brentford last campaign, so we could be in for a tasty cup tie under the floodlights – a cup tie that has a little bit more riding on it than just a place in the next round – a large slice of local pride is at stake too.
