Brentford unveiled their new striker Will Grigg today. The last few days has seen the club putting together the nuts and bolts of the deal which will see the 21 yr old (22 yrs on Wednesday) Northern Ireland international make the switch from the The Bescot to Griffin Park in what is believed to be a 3 year (2 years plus one) deal.

Scoring 4 goals in his previous two seasons, Grigg really turned up the heat last year scoring 20 goals in 45 appearances. 8 of those goals admittedly did come from penalties which will come as a relief for everyone who had their hands over their eyes at the Doncaster game.

The striker is believed to be currently holidaying in Bad Blankenberg in Germany – coincidentally the same town the Brentford team are training in – and it is hoped that the coaching staff will convince him, now that his contract has finally expired today, to leave his fishing tackle and join them for their pre-season training sessions.

Grigg is a level headed individual according to sources with a fantastic temperament – being described by some fans as “a Paddy Madden-type player”. He links up well with his team mates and brings them into the game which is good news for Donaldson. Walsall fans have mixed views about him leaving – many of them viewing his departure in the same way as Brentford fans see Forrester signing for Doncaster.

With Grigg in the bag, where does that leave Brentford striker-wise? The probability is him linking up with Donaldson up front and when Uwe decides to flip the formation for an all-out 3-man attack, bringing in El Alagui while pushing Donaldson out wide. With Bradley Wright-Philips on trial at New York Red Bulls, his time with the Bees seems over. Paul Hayes spent the back end of last season at Crawley. As an expensive 4th striker – it seems like his time at Griffin Park may be coming to an end – especially with up-and-coming players like Luke Norris pushing for a place on the bench.

Walsall manager Dean Smith was less than gracious about Grigg’s departure saying “I`d like to wish Will all the best but, as he`s moved to a club at our level, in League One, I can`t at this moment in time.” He is also reported to have told BBC WM he hopes Walsall are awarded around ÂŁ1m by the tribunal for Grigg. Dream on Smithy … Dream on.

Meanwhile it lookalike it’s back to the drawing board for Smith as his impressive forward line is dismembered with Febian Brandy off to Sheffield Utd and the highly rated Jamie Patterson being linked with Notts Forest and Middlesborough.

With the date now passing for the expiration of players contracts, no doubt there will be a few more comings and goings at Griffin Park over the next few weeks.
