Brentford were knocked out of the JPT last night at Southend after a fairly mixed performance overall
Uwe gave starts to a number of fringe players but Brentford put in a lacklustre first half showing – Southend were two up at the break, both goals coming from distance. Paul Hayes had a golden chance to score for the Bees but failed to take the opportunity.
Brentford rallied towards the end of the game – Hayes pulling a goal back but some wasteful finishing, mainly from former Southend loanee Antonio German, saw the game end 2-1.
German had replaced Harry Forrester on the half hour mark – Harry appearing to be holding his hamstring again which is a growing worry.
Sam Saunders put in a decent enough shift last night as did the returning Jake Reeves but overall we probably got what we deserved.
It will be a different team that faces MK Dons at the weekend but let’s hope the two cup games haven’t interrupted our building impetus in the league.
Bees – Moore, Barron, Dean, Hodson, Bidwell (Pierre), Kiernan, Saunders, Dave (Legge), Reeves, Forrester (German), Hayes
Unused Bees – Dallas, Oyeleke
