Brentford forward Sergi Canos’s controvertial red card was a turning point in the Championship clash with Derby County at Pride Park – before the sending off The Bees had been playing brightly and looked in confident moody. However, the straight red on 25 minutes changed the changed the game, and two quick fire goals before the break killed off any realistic chance Dean Smith’s men had of claiming even a point.
Second half was all Brentford, but despite the majority of possession and a never say die atmosphere, Derby’s defence looked solid as always and it was simply too big an ask to haul ourselves back into the game. The seal was put on the Rams’ win thanks to a late penalty. But as you will see from the Beesotted video, link at top of the page, and by listening to the Pride of West London post match podcast (link above), fans of both teams were less than convinced of the referee’s hasty red and the atmosphere in the away end underlined that, despite everything, the away fans were pleased with the over all performance by Brentford.
WAS IT A RED? Sergi Canos’ tackle really seems to have devided opinion: fans and the managers can’t agree on whether the player should have been shown straight red, some say he won the ball and it wasn’t even a foul. What do you think? #BrentfordFC #dcfc #DCFCvBFC @RamZoneDerby
