Brentford sign French Defender

Brentford have finalised the signing of left sided central defender Yoann Barbet from French club Chamois Niortais according to our Beesotted contacts in France.

The fee is believed to be around €700k.

A product of the Bourdeaux youth system, Barbet played 75 games, scoring 15 goals, for Bordeaux B team before switching to Chamois. He played 33 times and scored 2 goals for Chamois last season who finished in 11th place in the French 2nd Division.

The 22 year old is described as one of League 2’s most promising central defensive prospects. According to Brendan McFarlane of French Football Weekly, despite his relative inexperience, Barbet is incredibly composed on the ball – so much so, last season he shone as being the most confident defender in the side playing alongside a number of more experienced heads.

As well as being good in the air, he is also confident with the ball on the deck and he can pass the ball. He was often used to good effect in set pieces.

Barbet has featured for the France national side at U18 level.

Brentford appoint Head of Football Philosophy

Brentford have hired Flemming Pederson as head  of football philosophy and player development. His role is to oversee the development role and academy, currently run by Lee Carsley, ensuring there is a clear path and ethos from the U9’s to the 1st team. His responsibility will include setting out individual development plans for Brentford players.

Pederson will work as one of many specialists within Marinus Dijkhuizen’s coaching team.

The 52 year old has over 30 years experience in youth development as well as spells as 1st team coach for Danish Superliga team FC Nordsjælland, German Bundesliga 2 side FSV Mainz 05 and manager of Danish 2nd Division side FC Helsingor.

Transfer Rumours

Rumours have it that our players are being hounded by other teams.

  • Fulham have made a bid for Tarkowski rumoured to be in the region of £1.75m. However, the bid has been rejected being way off Brentford’s valuation of the player (£8m).

  • Teams are also sniffing around Gray and Jota – but no formal bids have been received for the players who are rated at £8m and £6m respectively. QPR were supposedly interested in Gray whereas Leicester, Swansea and Bournemouth are interested in Jota.

On the transfer front, our sources overseas tell us Brentford are closing in on a number of targets including an overseas attacking midfielder, a premier league midfielder and an overseas striker.
