Walsall left back Rico Henry has finally signed for Football Club after month and months of rumourmongering.
The 19 yr old defender – who was mooted to join Brentford on our podcast from the January window – moves to Griffin Park on a 5-year deal with an initial fee of £1.5m. A number of add-on clauses could see that fee rise to over £5m.
Rico moves to Griffin Park immediately to receive treatment on the troublesome shoulder injury that may require surgery – leaving him out for selection until around Christmas time.
The England Under 19s international was the subject of much transfer interest 12 months ago with Walsall turning down a 7-figure sum for him last summer.
He was named as the club’s Young Player of the Season at the end of last term and – like Brentford’s other Walsall-signed player Romaine Sawyers – featured in the PFA League 1 team of the year.
Meanwhile, Brentford fans can now prepare themselves for the barrage of abuse from Walsall fans for once again raiding their cupboard. Be prepared for home made Rico Henry Judas flags and all sorts if they ever show their faces down at Griffin Park again.
