Brentford go to Villa Park for the first time in over 60 years having never beaten Aston Villa.
Brentford are buoyed by a tremendous 2-0 victory down in Brighton. Villa had plenty of chances against Nottingham Forest but could only muster a draw – Forest scoring a late equaliser.
The difference in spending power between the two teams is enormous. With Villa – who have a £115m turnover compared to Brentford’s £10m. The team spent £50m in the summer and are hoping to kickstart their season with a win against a Bees team who spent less than 1/20th of that in the last window.
As 2,000 Bees fans prepare to take time of work and trek up the motorway, Billy Grant chats to Ryan Pitcher from Aston Villa Blog Heart Of The Holte who gives us the lowdown on relegation … finances .. fire power … and his thoughts on how Villa will do against the Bees
Alot has been written about how much we spent. To spend that much you have to have been bad for a few seasons and had bad mgmt make some bad decisions. We were blessed with a new owner who was willing to try to turn things around. If not for this my guess is we might have been playing in League one next season. When you have this much change to a club, any club, it takes a while for it to click, no matter how talented they are. So understand we are not trying to out spend everyone, I doubt, even with promotion, we would have this type of turnover again. We are just trying to live up to the past success that the club has had. Your club has started well. Wish you luck.
Think you’ll find it’s heart of the HOLTE, as in the name of the famous stand! You little teams need to read about football history and culture!
You big teams need to start getting results against these little teams
ps. The infamous Holte End seemed rather quiet last night. Overawed maybe?
