The FA Cup Third Round is upon us this weekend with National League side Eastleigh coming to Griffin Park, managed by ex-Bees manager Martin Allen, with the aim of causing a real Cup upset. Beesotted’s Billy The Bee spoke to the Bees-fan-favourite ex-Gaffer about tank tops, DJ Campbell and whether his Brentford side would have beaten today’s Bees team. Click the link below.
Martin Allen’s time at Brentford will always be remembered with a great deal of fondness by the Bees faithful, and in an era that was financially in stark contracts to the one we find ourselves in now, he not only steered the club away from relegation fears in his first season, but took the club by the scruff of the neck in the seasons that followed to inspire some exciting Cup runs and promotion pushes.
Allen is one of the games real characters, and as you will hear in the interview, his love for Brentford comes through loud and clear!
The Beesotted crew met up in The Jugged Hare in Pimlico to shoot the breeze … they also chatted transfer window activity …… will Scott Hogan go for £15m? … will Sergi Canos come back to Griffin Park? … where will Jota fit in? … will we pick up Ben Stevenson from Coventry? … plus who else should we be bringing in? … and Liberal Nick goes on a rant about FA Cup TV matches .. plus we predict the score for the Eastleigh FA Cup match.
We also talk about our favourite Martin Allen moments at Brentford… what are your’s? Please share them and comment below!
It’s always great to listen to Martin Allen talking about the Bees.
A moment that lives in the memory was when we were going out of the play-offs at home to Sheffield Wednesday and the fans were singing “there’s only one Martin Allen”. My son turned to me and said only Brentford could do that when their team is losing. Great character, great memories, Bees legend (and supporter).
