Brentford have completed the signing of 23 year old Danish international midfielder Mathias Jensen from Spanish La Liga club Celta Vigo. Jensen joins The Bees on a four year deal for a fee of around €4m (around £3.5m).
The Danish International joined Celta Vigo last summer from FC Nordsjælland. Unfortunately, the young dane failed to hold down a regular place in the Spanish team – very much like his new team-mate Christian Nørgaard – making only six appearance for the Serie A club all season.
His time at FC Nordsjælland was far more enjoyable. A team-mate of Emiliano Marcondes and nicknamed “The Danish Pirlo”, he scored 15 goals in 65 appearances for the Danish team – 12 of them coming in his final season before moving to Spain.
And whilst Marcondes was banging in the goals for FC Nordsjælland, Jensen was setting them up.
His ability to control the flow of the game with his slick passing. His ability to tackle. And his vision to find his teammates via long balls made him one the most influential players in the FC Nordsjælland side and he quickly became captain.
According to Norland1337’s Reddit report on Jensen, his passing is quick and unbelievably accurate. He can also beat the man with his first touch and is a very good finisher.
Brentford fans have been quick to make comparisons and some have likened him to Alex Pritchard whilst others have coined him ‘Benrahma meets Sawyers’.
Thomas Frank commented
“Mathias is a very talented young player who can dictate the game and has a great passing ability. His arrival gives us flexibility and strength in depth in midfield, no matter what system we look to play. We (now) have a group of top-quality central midfielders with different skill sets which we can use in various combinations”.
Jensen joins new Brentford new signings Ethan Pinnock, Pontus Jansson, David Ray and Christian Nørgaard and the rest of the team in Austria for pre-season training.
