We wish all Brentford fans, players and staff a happy, healthy and successful 2018! Following a fantastic run of results at the tail end of 2017, and some superb, flowing football having been on show since the very start of the 2017/18 season, the New Year looks set to be a very memorable one for the Bees.

The first fixture, away to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow evening is, on paper, the toughest of the campaign – Wolves have taken the Championship by storm this season and are certainly THE team to beat… so we’ll have to go to Molineaux and play to our best and put another big scalp in their place.

Emiliano Marcondes officially becomes a Brentford player today – the Danish League’s top scorer looks to be yet another exciting, ‘off the radar’, signing by the club’s recruitment wizards – the team behind the team – who have used their contacts, knowledge and statistical know-how to unquestionably propel the club forwards.

Against a backdrop of ridicule, cynicism and insults – the staff responsible for continually finding the next generation of Bees, and ensuring that those players who do leave for their huge money moves are not only replaced, but improved upon in many cases, are often the unsung heroes. Championship results on the pitch are ultimately how our club are judged, but as we all know, Brentford Football Club is at the cutting edge of sports analytics and science, which has to be acknowledged and respected.

The B-team set up is hugely exciting too, and from what we’ve seen since the academy restructure, we can be confident of a supply of home developed and home grown talent long into the future – and I know there are many fans who now enjoy watched all of their games too.

Whatever the result in the Black Country on January 2, we’ve all got so much to look forward to in the remainder of the season, and although the transfer window may bring its usual ‘moments’, and things won’t go all our way this year, another top ten finish is a realistic target, and if the recent momentum can be harnessed and built upon, a play-off place or better is not an unrealistic dream. A Wembley win over Derby County has be predicted by some!

Sergi Canos, Romain Sawyers, Dan Bentley, Nico Yenaris, Chris Mepham, Flojo, Lasse Vibe, Josh Mc, Bjelland, Rico, Judgey, Woodsie, Johan, Ollie Watkins, Neil Mapuay, Josh Clarke and Mokotjo… all take a bow for what you’ve achieved so far and will continue to do this year.
