Yes, I do have a similar story. I was introduced to the Bees by my ex husband. His dad, my father in law, had come over from Dublin, and settled in Hayes. He decided to give the Bees a try as it was a club than one he had been watching. He became a loyal.Brentford fan, putting his own money into.the club alont with all.the other supporters when the club looked like it was going.
My husband also became a loyal Bees fan having been taken to the games as a boy. After leaving school he went to work for.the BBC in the accounts department hearif stories about Greg Dyke and his Bees links.
I met my husband the year Brentford gained promotion . He told me he was unable to see.d that Saturday as he had to go down to Griffen Park to see the cup.being paraded.
He took me down to Brentford when the season started again. My first unfortunate indident which made.those supporters who were around us laugh was my first cup of Brentford coffee. As soon as we reached the then uncovered away end, I eagerly took a mouthful of my coffee, only to immediately spit out again. I had third degree burns! I took another sip at halftime, certsin by noe it had cooled down.
We used to park by the bridge under the fly over or just passed it, and make the short walk down. A treasured possession of mine are the Bees keyring I bought in the little tardis portokabin in my first season. I am sad that my father in law woill.never see the new stadium he so desperately esnted the Bees to.have.
my first game at he Bees was in 1947 I was 5 and it was 2 days before my 5th birthday cant remember much about the game, but can still see me going thru the turnstiles at Ealing Road and a crossbar ride from South Action on my dads bike it was a draw 1..1 against West Ham 24000 crowd.. 72 years a Bee, so much wanted to be at Griffin Park last Saturday, great memories of the good and bad times.
