Fulham are in for David Button – £2m is the figure. And all the signs are saying he will go there too.
David Button has been an absolute rock in the Brentford defence over the past few seasons. No Brentford fan will deny Button’s contribution to the team – keeping Brentford in the game time after time with a number of incredible saves.
The save up at Norwich was described by a steward as the best save he had ever seen. As for the save he made up at Preston last season – absolutely incredible.
From what we can gather, Button was offered a new contract a year ago but has been pondering on signing the deal. Bees fans were surprised that no team had come in for our prize keeper last summer .. although there were talks that Tony Parks, goalkeeping coach at Aston Villa at the time, was very keen to bring him up to the Midlands.
Brentford have since brought in Dan Bentley from Southend – a highly rated young keeper – who’s move to West London can only do one of two things …. create a scenario where two top class keepers fight it out for the number one spot with the hope that Brentford will find themselves playing in a higher league within the next two years .. or Button leaves.
Unfortunately, all roads lead to Button leaving and – like Bidwell leaving for QPR – he will be finding his pastures new down at another of our deep rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Having their hand forced to a certain extent, £2m is good business for Brentford.
We will be sad to see David go. He’s a great player and lovely bloke.
Beesotted caught up with David Button briefly in Germany on pre-season tour and asked him if he was going to sign on the dotted line. His answer was very interesting as you can see from the video above.
