Brentford fans are calling for the Football Association to take a closer look at television footage following David Luiz’s dangerous shoulder-charge on Jake Reeves during Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Brentford.
Replays show the Brazilian defender cynically ‘taking out’ the Bees substitute after the ball had been played, leaving Reeves unconscious and unable to finish the match. With Chelsea already four goals to the good, and with the game being played in a good spirit, the unprovoked foul certainly deserved more than a yellow card.
Brentford manager, Uwe Rossler, said after the match: “Jake is fine, he wanted to continue but our medical staff said it was better that he didn’t…” David Luiz made an appearance in the away dressing room after the match to apologise, but some are hoping the matter will not be left there.
If a Brentford player had committed the same foul on a Chelsea player then I’m sure there would be recriminations.

“If a Brentford player had committed the same foul on a Chelsea player then I’m sure there would be recriminations.” You’re sure? You’re sure that the FA would break their own rules stating that they can not increase a punishment if it has been dealt with at the time by the referee? DOH! Personally, as a Chelsea fan, I think Luiz should have been red carded as it was cynical and unnecessary however all this tripe people are spouting about the FA reviewing it and increasing the punishment can not happen as has been the case for years and years now, they couldn’t do it against Luiz nor could they do it if it had been a Brentford player. Know the rules and facts before posting silly gibberish trying to drum up sentimental attachment and a sense of them against us that just isn’t there. Cheers guys, have a good campaign and well done on pushing us for 135 minutes before we kicked on for the second half of the replay.
Where was there a mention of increasing the punishment in our piece? Appreciate your comments re the rest of the season and you are right, it was a great Cup clash over the two legs. Regards.
And, of course, The FA are consistent in applying their own rules, not!
