It’s a rumour that has been circulating for weeks now. Finally, the deal has been sealed. Brentford have secured the services of Bradley Wright-Phillips on loan until the end of the season right from under the noses of managerless Swindon.
Apparently the switch to the Wiltshire club was a done deal. Then their management buy-out postponed the deal for a few weeks. However, with Paulo Di Canio currently hanging out down Swindon job centre, the raise in profile of Brentford in the media recently, our Brazilian-esque style of football, an injection of cash from the cup run and Bradley’s disgusted dad, ex-Arsenal hero Ian Wright, venting at Ashley Cole’s cheating tactics against the Bees at Stamford Bridge … all roads were destined to lead to Griffin Park for the ex-Manchester City and Charlton striker.
There was a rumour mooted around of a swap deal involving Forrester plus cash before the transfer deadline – fortunately that did not materialise. Scoring 22 goals for Charlton as they won the first division championship, fans favourite “he’s better than Sean” Bradley was key to Charlton’s success last season. However, a dip in form as Charlton moved up a division has seen him score only just 1 goal in 21 appearances and he doesn’t form part of Chris Powell’s current plans.
Brentford fought off competition from not only Division 1 promotion rivals but also Championship teams showing real signs of intent from the Brentford management in ensuring we fulfil our true potential this season remaining competitive all the way to the bitter end. We’ve already had messages from Sheffield Utd fans who claim that their team is now starting to click and Bradley wasn’t good enough for them (they were also linked with him in the transfer window). Well what may not be good for that goose .. may be perfect for our gander .. and with two months to go of the regular season, the timing couldn’t be better.
What a difference 18 months makes eh? Many thanks Chelsea
