So the transfer window has opened. And if you believe the media reports flying around at the moment, Burnley have put in a bid for highly-rated Brentford central defender James Tarkowski.
As they say, there is no smoke without fire. However, with Brentford sitting tight a few points off the playoffs, they are in no rush to sell any of their key players.
And with Brentford making great strides in the Championship again this season with a clutch of ‘non name brand’ players, it’s only natural that clubs with bigger purse strings will come looking.
but these are way way off the mark from what we hear from our contacts in deepest Lancashire – with Burnley seemingly happy to employ a Wigan-esque policy of ‘unsettling of the player’ with unrealistically low bids, Forshaw stylee.
It must be a Lancashire thing.
Tarky, , is one of the highest rated players at the club. At the beginning of the season he was rated alongside Andre Gray who we sold to Burnley back in August. You can rest assure that the club will be not looking to budge on selling him unless they see a figure of around £6m or so banded around – the sort of money they got for Gray from Burnley before the add-ons bringing the total up to £9m.
Brentford are in a difficult situation – with all players potentially up for sale if ‘the price is right’. This does not mean that the club wants to sell. But the predicament Brentford is in – they are still unable to play players wages of £20k + a week … the type of money being offered by teams with huge parachute payments.
The next few weeks will be interesting .. with players such as Judge … Jota .. Dean … and Diagouraga all continually being linked with moves away from the club.
Will this be a month of consolidation for the Bees .. or a month of turbulence?
Only time will tell.

This was inevitable. I’d like to think though that there is a robust succession plan in place to replace people with better if they leave.
Nice read and summary. We hopefully will be raiding league 1 teams etc for their best too.
I would like to think the club has learned from previous tranfer encounters that as soon as any player shows any interest that the deal is done asap.
We are still a selling club and must accept this…….
but we are also in a position to name our price.
How highly do you lot rate him. Thought you’d had our pants down with Gray at first but he really is the business. It is rubbish losing good players out of a solid team though ( especially in Jan) – happens to us as well. Good luck for the season apart from Friday week.
Burnley-fan come in peace. I rate Tarkowski as a very good defender with a lot of potential, but IF he was going to move to Lancashire, he’d have to warm the bench for a while. Instead he is playing a lot at Brentford and that is the best way for him to progress. As much as I’d love to see him in a BFC-shirt, he’s better off playing every week. What might happend in the summer transfer window is something else.
If Montell Moore does go to Brum I hope we have a good sell on clause as I’m sure his value will escalate in 12-18 months as he proves himself a more than adequate replacement for Demari Grey
Just trying to unsettle the boy before next Friday’s big game. Tarks will batter Andre Grey and they know it.
