Beesotted’s Jim Levack shares his excitement ahead of Tuesday’s League Cup semi-final.

Like loads of other Bees fans I’ve been telling anyone who’ll listen that this season’s League Cup semi-finalists are made up of Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Brentford.

Sounds good and still kind of dream material doesn’t it?

But this time it feels different. Although we have an in-built humility that easily translates to inferiority, this side are more than capable of winning it.

Why not? It’s a free hit, a game for our boys to go out, express themselves and enjoy. Their chance to show the nation (as if they didn’t already know) that Brentford are now a footballing force to be reckoned with. Minnows no more.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Spurs, but for now they’re just another Premier League outfit to add to the list of clubs who now have us firmly on their radar.

Thomas Frank’s pre-match schpeel was wonderful: “I’ve studied football for years and Jose is one of the greatest of all time so it’s a privilege to play his team. I admire him a lot but when the whistle blows it’s another bloke in the dug-out. I’m still pretty sure he also goes to the toilet sometimes!”

I think Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris do too.

“Brentford’s League Cup record over the years is quite frankly miserable.”
