Beesotted start their daily news round-up here with a summary of the weekend’s action in and around Griffin Park and Division 1
Grayson beef
Preston manager Simon Grayson has been accused of sour grapes and wearing rose tinted spectacles after calling the Brentford team a bunch of divers – saying if the penalty was up the other end, it would never have been given. The replay on the television says otherwise Simon.
Post Preston match quotes
Uwe Rosler. “Even if it finished 0.0, I couldn’t have asked for more. We changed our way of playing yesterday because of the pitch and they did it brilliantly. Our pitch is not good. It does not make life easy in terms of the way we want to play.
I was thinking of bringing Harry Forrester on and Sam (because he was tiring) off but I thought it was a game for set pieces. I left him on and we won the game”.
In a side swipe at Graham Westley “Since Simon Grayson has taken over at Preston, it looks a very different team than under the previous manager”
I said to the lads “What’s the good thing?” They said “We won”. Then I said “What’s the bad thing?” They didn’t know. I said “We’re second in the table. It’s too early”
Harlee Dean. “That was a big win for us like Tuesday. If you look at the table it’s looking very good for us.
I made a mistake for the Swindon goal trying to play it out the back. We didnt want that to happen again so the gaffer told us to go more direct. It worked. It’s another string to our bow – another way to play. Playing direct is easier than playing in midfield where mistakes can happen.
In this league we can beat anyone. We’re better against the good teams. We need to be more ruthless away from home. We need the crowds behind us. They can be the 12th man”
Weekend Div 1 results round up
Sheffield Utd lost 4.0 away to out of form Stevenage with a hat-trick from on-loan Lopez – his second hat-trick in two weeks. His previous was for Barnet. Danny Wilson said “Defensively we were 2nd best all game”. The defeat sees them drop to 3rd
Tranmere lost 3.0 to out-of-sorts Franchise FC (aka MK Dons). Franchise’s manager and friend of Brentford FC Karl ‘smuginson’ Robinson smugly said “We believe we can make the playoffs. We need to win six out of nine games”. One of those of course is against the mighty Brentford on Easter Monday, 3pm KO. Tranmere drop out of the playoffs and are currently 7th
Doncaster dropped two points at home to ‘as good as relegated’ Portsmouth. Manager Brian Flynn said “I think it’s a point gained, because I don’t think we were at our best today, especially in the second half.” They remain top of the league.
Bournemouth won their second game on the trot with a 1.0 win away to Oldham after a string of 5 successive defeats to move them up to 4th. Oldham had a dreadful penalty saved. Muff manager Eddie Howe said “it was dogged and determined performance”.
Yeovil gave away a 2 goal lead to draw 2-2 with Paul Hayes’ Crawley. Gary Johnson said “It feels like a defeat. We were poorer in the second half than they were in the first half”. Yeovil remain 6th.
Swindon play Yeovil on Tuesday – live on TV and move down to 5th place.
Brentford youth go down to Charlton
Brentford youth team were beaten 2.0 by Charlton at Jersey Road with goals from Kasey Palmer and Toby Sho-Silva
Chelsea NextGen victory
Griffin Park hosted a under 19s NextGen series game on Sunday which saw Chelsea into the semi finals beating Juventus by 4 goals to 1.
Allen loves German
Martin Allen seems mightily impressed with loanee Antonio German’s form down at Gillingham. “He’s a breath of fresh air” said Allen. “All he cares about is playing and training”.
All aboard the ska bus to Coventry
Brentford’s designated big away day – Coventry City has now match tickets on sale. Saturday April 6th. 3pm. KO. £22 adults. £15 seniors and juniors. £11 little ones. Trains are also on sale. Get a midland railways groupsave (4 people) and you pay £14 each return – travelling on any train.
Franchise FC
Trains are cheap to Franchise FC aka MK Dons for the game on Monday 1st April 3pm KO. Less than £30 for a groupsave four to Bletchley means £7.50 each if there are four of you and only £10 return if there are three.
Ladies day at Brentford
Apparently Saturday was ladies day at Brentford. We’re not sure if that consisted of the club marketing the game heavily to ladies for free or cheap entry or the fact that it was just highlighting that ladies come to a Griffin Park fairly regularly. Anyway, it seems to have passed most by. At Beesotted we would LOVE to see a proper ladies day at least once a season – with maybe a section of the New Road stand dedicated to ladies who can go as garrity as they want to. And judging on the pitifully small crowd on Saturday considering a 2nd place was beckoning, maybe an extra 1,000 laaaadies wouldn’t be such a bad idea to replace the stay away fans.
Lincoln fans arrested at Nuneaton
Elsewhere, in the Blue Square Premier (conference), the match between Nuneaton and Lincoln saw 89 arrests before, during and the match for violent disorder. All arrested fans are believed to be from Lincoln.
