Brentford could face one more potential, yet unlikely, hurdle in their quest to build a new stadium at Lionel Road after Sir Edward Lister, the London Mayor’s head of Policy and Planning gave his thumbs up to the Lionel Road development.
Boris Johnson’s deputy summed up his decision yesterday by underlining Brentford’s heritage in the area when he said: “Brentford Football Club is an important part of the West London landscape and this scheme will provide them with a much needed new home that will also become a fantastic facility for the local community.”
Eric Pickles, the Secretary for State for Communities and Local Government, now becomes the only person who can potential scupper immediate plans to proceed – however, with such positive and encouraging decisions having already been made in this landmark move for our club, it is not envisaged there will be any banana skins ahead. There is now every reason for the club to start really planning for the future.
Once again, the club’s new stadium team has conducted themselves in an excellent manner and have done Brentford – the club, the fans and the town itself – proud.
