Brentford recovered from going a goal own at MkFranchise and ran up a 4-1 scoreline which condemned the Dons to relegation back to League One.

Bees fans travelled in good numbers, and in doing so, provided the atmosphere in an otherwise soulless bowl… As impressive as it is, StadiumMK has no heart and soul, surrounded by every fast food retail outlet and franchise restaurant chain known to man… It really a quite depressing and hollow.

Brentford looked a confident, established championship side, and although not everything went their way, and MK looked dangerous in phases, especially down their left where Maxime Colin was exposed, some exquisite finishing turned the game around.

Sergi Canos curled in a delicious shot from outside the area just three minutes after Nicky Maynard’s opener, but the Bees looked the most likely to go on and clinch the points, which is exactly what happened in the second period.

Barbet’s excellent long ball set Lasse Vibe free on the left just three minutes after the restart and the Danish forward shot across the keeper and into the bottom corner from just inside the box to make it 2-1, then sub Marco Djuricin teed up Ryan Woods, who slammed in a third to wrap the game up.

MK did cause one or two problems, but on the break, the Bees looked slick and composed, and it seems there were more goals there for the taking of the appetite was there… Which it was as you will hear from the fans’ reactions in the Beesotted Pride of West London Post Match Podcast by clicking the link below.

Marco Djuricin hit the bar with a flicked header and Alan McCormack, who was outstanding, flashed one wide, but it was Jake Bidwell who added the fourth when his free kick eluded everyone to nestle into the net… Unfortunately the fans’ cries of “We want five!” went unanswered.

Bees didn’t have to shift out of 3rd and 4th gears for most of this encounter, and it wasn’t a vintage display, but five wins and a draw in the last six games is the Bees’ best ever sequence of results at this level and the latest victory sees us sitting in 10th place with three games left to play.

Tuesday night’s trip to Hull will no doubt be a sterner test, then we all look forward to the visit of Fulham next weekend.

But fair play to the players for turning the run-in into an enjoyable goal-fest.
