Beesotted contributor Jacob ‘The Gowler’ Gowler (@BeesBreakdown) gives us the tactical and statistical lowdown of Brentford’s win against Wolves.
Keith Andrews continued to manage minutes for Henderson and Damsgaard, with both players on the bench. Thiago returned to the starting XI after getting some rest midweek. The backline consisted of Rico Henry, van den Berg, Collins, and Kayode. Janelt, Yarmoliuk and Jensen, made up the midfield trio, while Schade and KLP joined Thiago up top.
Rob Edwards’ side came out in 3-5-2 with Doherty, Krejci, and Bueno on the backline. Hoever and Moller Wolfe the wingbacks supporting a midfield trio of Joao Gomes, Andre, and Fer Lopez. Strand Larsen and Hwang started up top, with both players looking to get back on track.
Brentford held more possession and won the xG battle even with Wolves’ penalty toward the end of the match. Brentford showcased their efficiency with only 7 shots but 6 shots on target.
Bees ended with 16 interceptions which is the highest so far this season. This is even more impressive when factoring in the Bees held 56% possession. The Bees also ended with 52 ball recoveries, which certainly helped prevent counter attacks, but also led to some dangerous chances for Brentford at the other end.
A brilliant game for Vitaly Janelt, who ended with 3 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 11 ball recoveries. Janelt’s notable performance comes after multiple rumours of him leaving the club. Does this performance make Brentford second guess selling him?
