Beesotted contributor Jacob ‘The Gowler’ Gowler (@BeesBreakdown) gives us the tactical and statistical lowdown of Brentford’s win against Burnley.

Keith Andrews made two changes to his starting XI that faced Brighton. Aaron Hickey replaced Ajer on the backline, joining Kayode, van den Berg, and Collins. Jensen replaced Yarmoliuk to form a double pivot with Henderson. Damsgaard started at the number 10 with Schade and Ouattara on the wings. Thiago looked to continue his good run of form up top against a struggling Burnley side.

Scott Parker’s side came out in a 4-3-3 with Hartman, Esteve, Tuanzebe, and Walker on the backline. Florentino, Cullen, and Mejbri started in midfield with Flemming, Foster, and Tchaouna on the front line. Parker had options on the bench with Ugochukwu and Broja waiting to make an impact.

Bees created the most xG so far this season with 3.06. Although another penalty may inflate their xG, the Bees created 1.44 xG from open play this time.

Even with a few misplaced passes, Brentford found ways to bypass Burnley’s midblock. Brentford also thrived on winning second balls and aerial duels, which created multiple goals.

Brentford won 65% of aerial duels and ended with 50 ball recoveries to Burnley’s 33. Statistically, Damsgaard had his best performance of the season, ending with 5 shot creating actions, 13 passes into the final third, and 9 ball recoveries.

After an assist, and a brilliant cross leading to Brentford’s second goal, Jordan Henderson still recorded his worst passing display of the season. I’d expect Henderson to get some rest midweek after playing 90 minutes in back-to-back matches.
