Having gone so close to achieving automatic promotion last season it is thought that Bees benefactor, Mathew Benham, is justifiably in no mood for play-off shenanigans again this campaign. Brentford’s wage bill has allegedly been increased by 33% to £5m, with the squad being strengthened in almost every department accordingly. All of which means that Uwe Rosler is under increasing pressure to deliver Championship football.

Although the hugely likeable German has made a great deal of friends while at Griffin Park – I’m sure he is under no illusion that its results, not caution, that is required this time out. He’ll surely also want to have a promotion on his CV before, perhaps, chancing his luck at a bigger club.

With yet more players expected to arrive before the curtain raiser against Port Vale, Beesotted wouldn’t be surprised to see another European arrival as well as a Premiership youngster, this is without doubt the strongest, highest quality, most impressive squad of players we’ve seen at our club since before the War. Is it any wonder that expectations and hopes are rising… This Bees team is simply too good for yet another season in the third tier, but as we all know, they will have to prove that over the coming nine months.

Beesotted predicts an impressive win over Celtic too.
