Ron Jacobs’ passing has been the catalyst for a most humbling experience for all concerned. It highlighted the incredible spirit of Bees fans in wanting to help one of their own at a time when it appeared that his passing would almost have gone unnoticed. But that was never going to be the case knowing the DNA of a Brentford fan.
The family that is Brentford Football Club, rallied around as one, and thus enabled Ron to have a farewell befitting of his character. The biggest regret, though, as we would all agree, is that Ron could not witness this incredible response to his passing and the magnificent send off he received last Wednesday.
Your response has meant that the total monies collected to give Ron a send off of which he would have been proud, stands at an incredible £4,689.70.
Once bills have been received and settled, I would estimate a total of just over £2,400 will be available.
This will be spent thus:
- There will be a donation made to Lambert Lodge in Layton Road Brentford, where Ron spent the last 19 months of his life. The Lodge provides sheltered housing for seniors and they urgently require funds to enable staff to improve the lifestyle of their older, more vulnerable tenants.
- Funds will be spent to provide a permanent memorial, similar to the current memorial at Griffin Park which pays tribute to those who played for Brentford but lost their lives whilst on active service during the two World Wars. This new memorial will be a central point whereby loved ones can pay tribute to those Bees fans who have passed away and will enable their memory to remain close to the Club they themselves held close to their hearts.
- Any remaining funds will be in the form of a donation to Brentford Football Club and will be held in abeyance whilst a fitting project is decided upon.
At some point in the near future Ron’s ashes will be buried at Griffin Park and supporters will be invited to attend this short ceremony.
R.I.P. Ron
