Brentford Sign Jeanvier from French League 2 Champions Reims

Brentford have signed centre back Julian Jeanvier from French Div 1 side Reims for a fee of around £1.8m plus bonuses which could bring the price to £2.5m.

The 26 year old centre back played 62 games for Reims scoring 5 goals. He was being tracked by Brentford for a long time and was rumoured to have been courted by Toulouse – eventually joining The Bees after being sold ‘the Brentford vision’ by Dean Smith, Phil Giles, Rasmus Ankersen and Neal Maupay (apparently this is true).

He helped Reims win the French Division 2 championship last season and is highly regarded as the World Cup winning country’s the up-and-coming young defenders.

Reims fans were less than impressed with their star played moving to West London for €2m – expecting the figure to be much higher – with a lot of #TeamsLikeBrentford flying around.

Jeanvier is the second centre back the Bees have signed over the summer after bringing in highly rated Esri Konsa from Charlton.

The defender was linked with Huddersfield, Fulham and Strasborg in last summer’s window – when he was voted defender of the year in Division 2 – but no deal was forthcoming.

Jeanvier is expected to have a medical this week before being unveiled officially.
