It would appear that the lid on the James Tarkowski saga may be about to be closed, with a fee between Brentford and Burnley having been agreed, subject to a medical this afternoon and personal terms being finalised.

Brentford’s valuation of the player is around the £6m mark – a figure that Burnley will be paying if all the add-on targets are triggered, despite a previous offer falling well below The Bees’ valuation. Brentford also turned down a bid of around £4m from Fulham for the player last summer.

Tarkowski, who Brentford bought from Oldham for around £250,000 two years ago, made a personal statement last week, in which he explained his version of events following the player’s decision not to play against The Clarets in last month, and although he hinted at wanting to continue playing for Brentford, with the transfer deadline looming, and a stated desire to head north to be near his sick mother, a transfer away from Griffin Park always seemed the most likely outcome if our valuation was met.

If the deal is signed by all parties today, then I’m sure many Bees fans will wish him all the best for the future, but to many, its the final few weeks of his Bees career that will be remembered as much as his defending abilities.
