Brentford FC have confirmed Mark “the Breadman” Warburton as their new manager.
Whilst the appointment offers Brentford FC some stability – Warburton was the club’s Sporting Director during Uwe Rosler’s reign – the statement that he has the job “until at least the end of the season” doesn’t quite offer the same conviction.
No news has yet been released as to whether Alan Kernaghan or Peter Farrell will remain with Brentford, or join Uwe Rosler’s backroom staff in Wigan.
Warburton originally joined The Bees from Watford – where he held a youth coaching position – but has gained recognition in football through his work with the NextGen series (effectively a European cup for players aged U19).
He is clearly trusted by Matthew Benham, which would appear to be a significant factor in the appointment – in the words of chairman Cliff Crown “Matthew was very clear about what he wanted”.
The club are still deciding whether to appoint a new Sporting Director to work alongside Warburton – who also brings a never ending list if baking pun options for churlish fanzine editors to utilize.
