Three Crackers Earn Bees First Win: Bolton 0 Brentford 3 (VIDEO)

Brentford finally got the first win monkey off their backs thanks to three beautiful goals at Bolton’s Macron Stadium this weekend – Yoann Barbet, Nico Yennaris and Ollie Walkins’ delicious strikes will be talked about up and down the land – but more importantly the first three-point haul of the 2017/18 season will hopefully see The Bees up and running and making up for lost ground in the coming weeks.

It took a while for the visitor’s superiority to show, admittedly, and the home side hit the post in one of several dangerous attacks in the first 25 minutes, but after Barbet’s blinder on 38 minutes, having come on for the injured Egan, there was really no looking back.

Barbet’s goal certainly made up for his outrageous midweek penalty miss against Norwich City, and he’ll be fighting it out for the goal of the game award with Yennaris (62), Watkins (84)… the second goal was lashed home from fully 35 yards and gave Alnwick in the Bolton goal no chance, then with a little over five minutes remaining, Ollie slammed the third into the same top corner from just inside the box and from a very acute angle.

After the game a relieved Dean Smith paid tribute to Barbet when he said: “I am really pleased for Yoann. He missed a penalty (against Norwich) and took a bit of stick on Tuesday. He wasn’t even with us on Friday. He had to fly back to France because his mother had heart surgery and then met up with us this morning. Thankfully, his mother is well and he scored a goal for her.”

So, well done Brentford, but we have to put that straight behind us and follow it up with another win against Derby County on Tuesday evening under the Griffin Park lights. It is certainly a relief to win at last, and to start scoring after many spluttering weeks in front of goal, but Bolton are the whipping boys of the Championship thus far – now we have to show we can do the same against the rest of the league.

The Bee Job Question

For years Brentford fans have constantly been evolving the songs they employ to support their team. Scientists and historians, such as myself, rarely take an interest in such forms of tribal worship. But, after being approached by Beesotted to take a closer look at...

With an added year option that will of course be triggered, also not sure he will want to go anywhere to play understudy to Saka or Salah, although he’s good enough to hold his own in either sides.
