Brentford striker, Will Grigg, has been linked with a surprise move to League One Bristol City – with a report in the Bristol Post also suggesting the Robins are aware they’ll have to table a bid close to £300,000, which Brentford paid Walsall last summer, to get their man.
Grigg scored just four goals in a campaign interrupted by international call-ups, injury and some indifferent form, and has become difficult to see how he fits into Mark Warburton’s plans going forward with Championship consolidation, and more clinical finishing, being demanded.
Bees fans saw in glimpses what Grigg is capable of, but with extra payments being triggered based on appearances, it is understandable that the Bees may be looking to unload rather than hope for the best from a player who is unlikely to figure in the starting eleven every week.
The Bristol Post says: “City manager Cotterill is in the market for a striker to partner Baldock and Grigg’s work-rate, mobility, ability to hold the ball up and power in the air render him an attractive proposition….”
“Robins director of football Keith Burt watched the striker last season and has been working on a possible deal while Cotterill has been away on holiday.”
Whether or not this move will come to fruition or not we will find out in the next few weeks, but it would be arguably a very good piece of business for all parties if it does come off. It’s bound to have the Walsall fans moaning again too… But that’s not unusual.

It would be nice if we had a rough idea what Warburton’s plans are for next season as we appear to be selling our striker’s with nobody really in the frame as a replacement. Granted will had a few injuries but he was never given a chance and it was beyond me how the hell trotter, a loan player from the scum , was always picked ahead of him.
Cotterill must have sh*t in his eyes. I’ll drive Grigg there myself if we can guarantee they’ll buy him.
“Work rate, mobility & ability to hold the ball up”, you sure he was watching the right player? Grigg offered nothing, he’s about as good as Macheda in that position in as much as neither of them can control, hold up ball, busy defenders, shoot, head a ball or score, so as forwards, they offer nothing. Get rid ASAP. Brutally bad.
Cannot get rid of him quick enough, no pace, no touch and no finishing – what more does a striker need?
Warburton wouldn’t be offloading players without knowing of replacements and doubt he will openly say who he is after because it gives indications to other clubs to have a look. Best to keep his business out of the spotlight. Have faith in him, he knows what he’s doing and we have a great football knowledge of talented players with warbs and frank McP
Will Grigg needs balls played quickly and precisely into the box if we had Joe MaCellane think we would get many goals and optimal performance from him.Comment
