It would appear that the relationship between Uwe Rosler and Brentford FC is set to deteriorate a tad following news that the former Bees boss is trying to lure Adam Forshaw with the new season looming into view.
Rosler, who has been sniffing around trying to nab George Saville ahead of the Bees, now seemingly has his eyes set on the League One Player of the Season to bolster his side after failing to win promotion through the Championship play-offs last campaign. However, he has been knocked back at the first attempt with a reported £1.5m offer rejected by Brentford.
Brentford fans are not naive enough to think that Forshaw doesn’t have his price. All players do. But I get the impression that it’ll take a significant, club-record-smashing bid before Mathew Benham and his team would risk losing such a prized asset so close to one of the most important seasons in the club’s history.
Uwe also knows that a sizeable chunk of any transfer would have to be shared with Everton, which was part of the agreement that brought him to Griffin Park.
Forshaw seemed a settled player at Griffin Park, and although injuries at the end of last season and a close season operation have curtailed pre season game time, it is hoped the player won’t be distracted too much and is focussed on continuing his journey with The Bees. Watch this space.
Forshaw spoke to Beesotted during the Barnet friendly (click for video) .. Saying he will be back for the first game of the season. Starting for who though?
Will Forshaw go to Wigan for bucket loads of cash … And in return, Rosler abandons his chase for Saville (which apparently was close to being a done deal), who then signs permanently for the Bees ….???

I think the lure of a return to the northwest and probably bigger wages will sway the decision in Wigans favour . Although I hope the bees hold out for astronomical money . I would definately like to see Saville back.
Don’t mind Adam leaving for an established Prem League team for £10million upwards but Wigan for 1.5? Noooo way.
He seems a clever lad so will hopefully look forward at where we’re heading rather and wish to be a very special part of our history. Wigan have had their day. They won’t ever better an FA Cup Final win and Europa League Football.
Look at the difference in our league placings too. Championship Table right below these comments: 6th Brentford, 23rd Wigan. Nah, stay where you are Mr Forshaw. If he has another good season, I can see him leaving for Liverpool next summer when they’ve run out of Southamption players to buy.
Positives for Forshaw: A move would take him back to his home and family, playing in a decent (though half-full!) stadium, with a team almost certain to be right in the midst of a promotion/play-off challenge.
Negatives: Rosler’s insistence on using his daft rotation policy would mean that Forshaw would probably play half as many games as he would for Brentford, and he’d almost certainly end up being stuck out in a wide position as they’ve already signed a couple of new midfielders this summer.
Last season, a lengthy run as a regular starter in a central role in Warburton’s more free-flowing team, saw Forshaw move up a notch in terms of his development. Another similar season this year and he could have the football world at his feet next summer.
On the other hand, we’ve just signed Pritchard for the season!!
Many young players have found the development opportunities at Wigan Athletic beneficial to their future careers. Mosses, McCarthy and several others have subsequently moved to big clubs. Forshaw may be another to add to the list.
I think that’s more to do with Martinez than Wigan though. He worked a system where those sorts of players actually played. Rosler brings youngsters on for half hour.
One thing I’m enjoying learning after a lifetime spent navigating the Doldrums of lower league football and oh-so wishing for our current position, is that the role of the squad outweighs the importance of the individual player. I think Adam is a great player and I told him so face to face outside the Braemar Road gates last season, which we both found pretty cringe-worthy. However, I was mightily impressed by new players and the squad as a whole during our friendly against Nice. I’d be sorry to see Adam go and think it would be a mistake for his career, but I truly believe we have the depth to cover it.
