Brentford edged the West London derby friendly at Loftus Road thanks to a swift early strike from newly appointed captain Nathan Collins who converted a second‑minute header from a Michael Kayode cross, and that proved decisive in the 1–0 win.
After the opener, Brentford dominated possession and managed the game effectively throughout the first half. QPR responded with sporadic efforts, Ziyad Larkeche had a long-range shot that flew high, while a Kieran Morgan run fizzed over the bar, but couldn’t carve out clear-cut chances before the break.
In the second half, Brentford maintained control with accurate passing and tactical discipline. QPR briefly troubled goalkeeper CaoimhĂn Kelleher via Madsen’s acrobatic attempt and a dangerous free kick, but the visitors mostly repelled danger comfortably.
Brentford created the better opportunities as the game wore on, Rico Henry and the impressive Antoni Milambo tested QPR’s defense and keeper Joe Walsh with low efforts and runs into the box.
Overall, Brentford’s early goal set the tone and Brentford’s superior quality was clear. Solid defensive work and control in midfield made the difference, while QPR struggled to build rhythm.
This isn’t a game to read too much into, the performance was controlled and Brentford knocked the ball around well against a low-block Rangers side who fouled and pulled back throughout. Keith Andrews will no doubt be happy that, with two weeks to go until the curtain raiser at Nottingham Forest, his team have more minutes under their belts. Although with the likes of Wissa, Pinnock, Schade, Nunes, Henderson and Sepp van den Berg missing, we were well short of full strength.
