Beesotted and local band, According To You, are planning to hit the right note for the people of the Philippines recovering from the destruction of Typhoon Haiyan on Sunday afternoon and we are inviting fellow Brentford fans to come along and play their part.
We are going into the recording studio to produce a 30-year-old Bees song that has probably never been heard outside of Griffin Park, to raise money for survivors a world away. We want to harness the power and passion of football to support Oxfam’s Philippines Aid relief programme.
Beesotted, recently nominated for a prestigious national (FSF) award have organised the re-recording of the little known 80’s club hit ‘Come On You Brentford’ with SoundHive, a community based music collective, who develop and nurture local musical talent. Every penny raised from sales of the remake will be heading to the disaster zone thanks to Bees fan Dan Suh’s company, Korea Foods, agreeing to pay all production costs.
Beesotted editor, David Lane, said: “The devastation and suffering caused to the people of the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan has touched the hearts of billions of people all over the world – all of whom would love to help rebuild shattered lives in any way they can.
“As individuals it’s difficult to know what do for the best. The urge is to jump on a plane and help physically, meaning that sometimes a simple donation just doesn’t seem enough. Sometimes you feel you need to do more, so we felt we had to do something.”
According To You lead singer, Dennie Cook, added: “Both football and music evoke very strong emotions, but when the images from the Philippines came on our screen, it put things into perspective. We know a little known song won’t raise millions but if everyone does what they can, we will make a difference sooner.”
The collaboration aims to raise upwards of £5,000 from sales. Bob Wing from SoundHive added; “The gesture won’t rebuild Guiuan on it’s own – but with support it could help.”
If you are available on Sunday afternoon between 3-4pm please Tweet @beesotted and, depending on the response and available space, you’ll be sent the full details.
The ‘Come On You Brentford’ track is expected to be available on iTunes at the end of next week.
