As the final few hours of the transfer window tick down, Beesotted understand that Sergi Canos is returning to the Bees… The fans’ favourite is having a medical. Beesotted contributor Carl Massey has the latest.
Bees fans woke up to the news that attacking midfielder Sergi Canos was closing in on a return to Griffin Park. With Brentford and Norwich agreeing a deal and Canos agreeing terms with the Bees, the young Spaniard will be unveiled by Brentford as a deadline day signing.
Sergi hit the ground running at Brentford last season and scored one of the goals of the season when he fired a beauty away at Reading.
After a successful loan spell last season Sergi Canos returned to Liverpool and even managed to feature in the last game of the Premier League season for the reds.
After failing to sign a new contract on Merseyside, Canos was courted by a number of clubs including Leeds and Brentford. Sergi opted on a move to East Anglia and recently relegated Norwich City for a reported £2.5 million.
Canos has managed just six appearances for the Canaries this season – scoring twice and this has aroused the interested of a number of Championship clubs.
Leeds United were reported to be heavily interested in the Spanish Midfielder and looked to be leading the race to secure his services.
Leeds Manager Gary Monk has turned round the fortunes of the Yorkshire club and they currently sit 4th in the Championship. Monk who joined Leeds after managing Swansea has an eye for a talented player and it looked as if he wanted Canos to join his resurgent Leeds side.
But if there was any indication that Sergi was on his way back to Griffin Park, it was was when he favourited multiple tweets from Brentford fans who urged him to return to Griffin Park. The tweets were unfavourited a few days later – probably after he got a bit of a ticking off from Norwich Football Club.
However, with the deal sealed, Sergi is now set for a return to Brentford where he will be given the opportunity to play first team football in a place where his already adored.
Earlier on in the transfer window Norwich manager Alex Neil was open to the possibility of allowing Canos to leave Carrow Road as long as his valuation was met.
Norwich clearly want to recoup most of what they paid Liverpool in the summer as the rumoured fee is believed to be around the £2.5 million mark that they paid for him in the summer.

Great news!
Made my day!
Well done to the Bees management.
He can ‘re-favouite’ those tweets now! Great news. Now we have gone from having no competition out wide to having 4 right sided midfielders! We really need a couple of strikers and a defensive minded midfielder who can play a bit of football.
I actually can’t believe this. You’ve got an awesome young player for chips. We have become a total farce.
