The pressure has been on Uwe Rosler for sure over the last few weeks, with results not quite going Brentford’s way, and some fans calling for his head.
So we have to say, despite all of the distractions going on around him, fair play for still taking time out of his busy week last week to make a young Bees fan very happy.
Brentford fanatic, 14-year-old Henry Brown from Kew, was born with the rare brain condition Arnold Chairi Malformation. He’s been in and out of hospital over the last few years recovering from brain operations to help rectify his condition. Not able to go to as many games as he would like, the Brentford fanatic has made sure he still gets down to Griffin Park as much as is humanly possible and, despite us losing there twice in three years, looks back on his recent trips to Wembley to see Brentford play with much fondness.
So, needless to say, he was absolutely gobmacked when he opened his front door last Friday evening to see Uwe Rosler standing on his doorstep. “I wasn’t expecting that” he told us. “I was so excited I couldn’t stop shaking. We talked about Brentford, I told him my favourite player was Sam Saunders and he gave me a signed a Brentford shirt”.
Lovely story but sounds more like a Richmond & Twickenham Times/Brentford football club-placed PR story than an edgy fanzine piece. But no. The exact opposite. This was not a club initiative at all. The family of Henry actually approached Rosler direct via a mutual friend. They thought it was an outside chance, but worth a shot, that Uwe would take time out to make Henry happy. And with absolutely no pontification, Uwe response to the request was “Absolutely”.
And that’s where we perked our ears up and thought fair play to the fella. Despite enormous pressure from all quarters to deliver, Rosler took time out of his own busy schedule on the evening before what was probably the most important game of his managerial career, to make a Brentford fan happy. And that was without a blaze of cameras following him.
So, you may have noticed that this story hasn’t made the official site. It hasn’t made the locals. We actually only picked up on it because Henry’s family told @beesotted in passing. This was going to happen for all the right reasons – solely to make a young Bee really happy. So we thought, in light of all the flack Rosler is getting at the moment from some quarters, it’s worth letting folk know that one little man in West London is more than delighted with what Uwe is doing down in TW8.
