Beesotted gets asked loads the best places to drink before away games. BillytheBee gets his tour guide hat on and plucks out the best and the worst pre-match boozers for Bees to choose where they fancy hanging out before kick-off.

Stevenage isn’t the worst town for pre-match boozers but it won’t have you jumping for joy at the same time. There are basically two choices. Either drink fairly near the ground (15 mins walk from the station) in the one real boozer of choice … Or head into town where there are plenty of fairly decent boozers to choose from down the high street – most of which have a decent selection of beer and half decent food. Taxi from the high street to the ground takes 10 mins max and will cost between £6 and £8. If driving, park in the field opposite the ground and avoid the parking in the rental parks as you may get clamped.

Train fare from Kings Cross or Finsbury Park is £8 each if you by four tickets (groupsave) and train takes 20 minutes.

Our Mutual Friend, Broadwater Crescent
This is the pub which will be frequented by most bees. 15 mins walk from the ground, does a wide range of ales and beers and the bar staff were very friendly last time we visited.

The Standard Bearer, The A Plaza, Dane St. By the bus station
Walking to the ground from the station, through the bus station, you are bound to pass this pub. Big weatherspoons. Always handy for a swifty on the way back to the train

Stevenage Club House bar
The club house bar by the ground is sometimes open to away fans

Standing Order, 33 High Street
Another weatherspoons but this time down the high street. Actually a decent boozer – one of those olde converted mansion pubs. Really busy last time we were there.

Chequers, 164 High Street and Marquis of Lorne, 132 High Street are another couple of boozers in the high street worth trying.
