The Beesotted crew – Billy The Bee Grant. Robin Hood McMichael. And xG Dave Anderson joined Matt Beadle in the LoveSport studio to discuss their abject performance at Preston at the weekend.
In the show this week:
Are Brentford as good as we think they are?
Preston and Brentford fans in the pub straight after the match at the weekend
Preston debrief
Thomas Frank’s thoughts on Preston
Stuart Dallas’ reinvention at Leeds as a wing-back. Are Brentford looking to do the same with Sergi Canos?
Is this ÂŁ30m Brentford team any better than the ÂŁ5m Brentford team?
Are Brentford more comfortable fishing for players in smaller and cheaper ponds .. than as they are currently doing – in bigger more expensive oceans?
You boys covered a lot of ground in that one!
I have a few points.
1/ 4 players were standout for our team last season. Sawyers, Maupay, Benrahma and Mokoto. Two have gone who we haven’t replaced properly (no striker and Jensen way off game fit as he was injured best part of last season). Obviously Benrahma has been injured, but what i can’t figure out is why Mokoto has been out of the side so long, and in favour of Norsgaard who hasnt hit the floor running, and only played 5 competitive games for Fiorentina before falling out of favour. I don’t get that.
2/ listening to your podcast earlier and Bronby Dane said of Norsgaard that he improved when Thomas Frank left the club as he because more defensive minded.
3/ Jensen looks a better player when Da Silva plays with him
4/ Thought Bees could swap between back 5 to back 4. When at 4 we use a defensive midfielder, and when at 5 we use more forward thinking midfielders?
5/ Maupay used to defend from the front, closing down opposition defenses and generally be a nuisance. We don’t just miss his goals. Our front players don’t do that as much of that now.
6/ We may have spent ÂŁ30m but we’ve now got at least 5 new players in our starting 11. Thats a killer for any team. You can easily argue that PNE have spent ÂŁ5m but only replaced 1 or 2 faces from their starting 11.
7/ something you’ve mentioned many time Billy, can we expect to challenge at the top when every season we rebuild? DS and TF talk about learning from our mistakes, but if those players leave and we get new ones in, the new boys will be making those same mistakes again
Couldn’t agree more with Rob. To emphasise the point I saw a quote the other day about our current status “…….someone once said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Perhaps insane isn’t the right word, but it’s not going to get us into the Premier League…”
Hi some great points made guys, I must admit I was concerned to see the amount of changes to the team, and the money paid for players this season, as we have done so well on a small budget up to this point, you could argue that we haven’t really spent to much, as the amount we received from players leaving, has somehow balance the books. But as Brentford fans Is this something we should be getting use to now ? Personally I don’t think it matters how much a team or a player costs, as long as the players we get in are the right fit for the team and the club, and are what we need to progress. are the players we have now ready to push this club into a new era ? I am unsure but like everything in football time will tell. U the Bees
