According to breaking news reports from Wales, Brentford have signed 20 year old centre half Ben Nugent on loan from Cardiff.

The strapping defender, who came on as a sub last night, is well rated by Cardiff fans but has become surplus to requirements over the short term following the Welsh side’s £8m capture of Steven Caulker this evening.

Caulker ironically grew up in Feltham and is rumoured to be a Brentford fan.

The deal for Nugent was apparently agreed in principle after last night’s friendly – Nugent was named Cardiff’s young player of the year last season and has been tipped by Malky Mackay as a future Cardiff captain.

The Bees had also recently been linked with permanent moves for Leicester’s Liam Moore and Tom Parkes of Bristol Rovers – we’d presume that the capture of Nugent plus the return to training of Tony Craig would put these deals on ice.
