Bees sign Rovers defender

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Jack O’Connell from Blackburn. O’Connell signs a three year deal and is technically eligible for this weekend’s trip to Leeds.

20 year old O’Connell is left footed, and can play at either left back or centre back. Brentford are looking to loan him out immediately -either back to Rochdale or another Division 1 team.

The O’Connell signing was Brentford’s only acquisition on Deadline Day.

McCormack plays in Brentford’s development team defeat of Cardiff

A strong performance from young goalkeeper Jack Bonham helped a Brentford Development side beat Cardiff 1-0 in Wales.

Nick Proschwitz scored the only goal of the game after 19 minutes from inside the area.

Club captain Alan McCormack also played after a four-month layoff through injury.

McCormack suffered a leg injury in October away at Bolton, and has been out of action since.

Transfer window deadline day round-up

Elsewhere as the transfer window slammed shut, Brentford’s championship rivals were also in business.

Bournemouth made the biggest statement of the day by bidding £5 million for Birmingham winger Demarai Gray. The bid, which started at £3.5m, was rejected five times as Birmingham declared they had no intention to sell.

Sitting top of the table Bournemouth clearly felt they didn’t need any other signings -the bid for Gray was their only of the day.

Derby made two strong loan signings in winger Thomas Ince from Hull City and and attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard from Manchester United. Both have proven themselves at Championship level (Lingard was at Brighton, Birmingham and Leicester previously and Ince was at Forest earlier this season) and will bring with them strong attacking ability.

Middlesbrough’s transfer activity ended when the club signed former Brentford man Adam Forshaw. They did however loan out young striker Luke Williams to League 1 Coventry.

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy decided not to dip into the transfer window activity.

Watford decided to let a few players go on deadline day. Lewis McGugan joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan, whilst Alex Jakubiak also extended his loan spell at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Wolves let go of former captain Roger Johnson, terminating the contract of the 31-year old centre back. There was no additional activity for Kenny Jackett who rejected a £2.5m bid from QPR for Bakary Sako.

Norwich looked abroad on deadline day, bringing in French midfielder Tony Andreu from Hamilton Academical.

But the big news was the transfer of West Brom’s Graham Dorrans’ £4m move being scuppered because Martin Olssen failed to agree terms in his swap move from Norwich to West Brom.

They also bid £2 million for Cardiff winger Craig Noone but the deal didn’t go through.

Following on from manager Stuart Pearce’s dismissal at Nottingham Forest, the club made no deals on transfer deadline day. But in a rant from Peterborough’s Darrah McAntony, rumour has it that Forest allegedly have been late in their payments for Britt Assombalonga who Forest bought from Posh for £5m in summer.

Beesotted chats to Kevin Gallen about Harry Redknapp

Brentford caught up with ex-QPR player Kevin Gallen at Ball Street on Deadline day. The R’s favourite admitted that, despite watching Brentford play when he was younger, he found himself getting ‘dogs abuse’ from Brentford fans every time he played against us.

He also gave his thoughts on Harry Redknapp’s attempt to make an impact on the transfer market for QPR this window.
