The Brentford B team take on Manchester City at Griffin Park on Monday 15 May. Kick-off is 7pm with entry is free for spectators.
The Brentford B team finish their season with a match against Manchester City on Monday 15th May. Kevin O’Connor’s side play their 39th official fixture of the season under the Griffin Park lights.
And after playing illustrious opponents this season with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Villereal, the players and staff have been gearing themselves up for the big season finale in West London where a crowd in the region of 2,000 fans is expected.
The Bees have played City twice already this season. In July – with the B team still in its inception stage – they lost 1-0 in a hard-fought match at the Ethiad Campus with new City boss at the time Pep Guardiola watching on from the stand.
More recently, City once again hosted The Bees who repeated securing a narrow victory – this time 3-2 – with Zain Westbrooke and Chris Mepham scoring in a game that saw a very clinical home side take their chances.
Brentford B don’t have too many injury concerns heading into the final game, O’Connor will have most of his squad available for selection. Manny Onariase – who has spent the second half of the season on loan in League Two with Cheltenham Town – has returned after helping them secure Division 2 safety and will be raring to get back into the matchday squad.
The three players with the most minutes for Brentford B this season are captain Zain Westbrooke as well as fullbacks Lukas Talbro and Ilias Chatzitheodoridis. Westbrooke made his first team debut at Craven Cottage against Fulham in April, while Greek left-back Chatzitheodoridis made the bench when Brentford travelled to Wolves in September.
Another B team player who will make the squad includes First Team debutants Reece Cole who not only made first team debut this season – away at Nottingham Forest – but also made his debut on the Beesotted Pride Of West London Podcast this week (click link above) – live and direct from The Cross Keys Pub in Stamford Brook – Hammersmith where he talked about life in the B-team … playing for the first team … whilst also chipping in on the “Best and the worst of Brentford’s season” selection.
B Team Head Coach O’Connor said:
“We’ve played them a couple of times, we’ve given them a good game. We’re looking to win the game, we’ve run them close twice. I’m just looking for us to get that little extra yard and hopefully finish the season on a real high.
We’ve had two or three really good games at Griffin Park with big crowds for us. We’re hopefully going to get a decent crowd for that game.”
You can catch the B team match against Manchester City at Griffin Park, Braemar Road, Brentford on Monday 15th May at 7pm. Admission is free.
