Brentford take on a Middlesbrough side at Griffin Park this Saturday lunchtime that is likely to contain one very familiar face – that of Adam Forshaw.

Boro’s reported ÂŁ2.5 million swoop for Forshaw was a surprising twist in a unsettling and badly planned few months for the midfielder, who left TW8 with, seemingly, the world at his feet… I’m sure his bank balance is healthier, but it would appear his agent has had to work his nuts off trying to rescue his client’s career prospects after a very bum steer to the Latics.

Middlesbrough have bought themselves a cracking player, who if he can rediscover his best form, will undoubtedly boost the club’s chances of returning to the top flight, but the cynic in me would suggest that the transfer to Boro simply helps the player out of a hole… And perhaps Wigan as they prepare for life in the third tier. Will he be looking to head away as soon as his agent sniffs out something else? Maybe.

The current Bees Player of the Season is likely to receive a mixed reception from fans before and during the game – boos would be a big shame – because Adam’s name will alway be linked with our promotion last season, a campaign in which he played a pivotal role.

Adam is a lovely bloke and I’m sure he cringes at times as to how his days at Brentford ended, and how things have worked out since… But I hope Saturday’s result, and the way our amazing new midfield performs, further underlines what a mistake it was for him to leave.
