Simon Moore has signed for Premiership team Cardiff according to Cardiff Director Steve Borley.

“@SteveCMB: Just signed the contracts for Simon Moore and John Brayford. Great additions to the bluebirds squad.”

The 23 year old Isle of Wight keeper has had rumours suggesting an impending move for months now with interest coming from teams as far afield as Man United and Ipswich.

Moore signed for Brentford as a free agent, previously playing for Farnborough, at the age of 18 yrs finding his place on the bench initially as back up for on-loan Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczęsny. He subsequently found himself deputising for No 1 keeper Richard Lee. An injury to Lee saw Moore take prime spot between the sticks and his form ensured that Lee never really won his place back. Despite that, the two remain closest of friends and terrace rumour has it that Richard Lee is even involved somehow in representing Moore.

Playing 52 times for the first team last season, Moore was instrumental in holding together one of the tightest defences in the division. With a reputation for being a well balanced, mild mannered, sensible chap, Moore recently extended his contract keeping him tied to Brentford until 2016.

With so much heat surrounding him, Moore was under no obligation to do this but we believe that he did it because of his loyalty to Uwe Rosler and Matthew Benham who he recognised had shown great faith in him. He ensured that if a situation came where a bigger club came in for him, he could still leave but at the same time also ensure that Brentford would also get a decent payoff for once. It’s a real shame Harry Forrester didn’t show similar loyalty in looking to similarly give the club a decent payback for their commitment to him.

Brentford obviously knew this moment was on the horizon. With James Brangrove being brought into the development squad and Uwe trialling German Müller, and Americans Boldt and Caldwell between the sticks, it seems that we have been stockpiling goalkeepers.

With the highly rated Bonham providing suitable competition for Moore and with Richard Lee due to return soon, four decent 1st team goalkeepers was a little over-ambitious for a Division 1 side.

On a positive note, if we were to lose two first team players this season the two we have lost (Forrester and Moore), however disappointing that may be, have not left a hole in the side due to the quality of the backup. Donaldson or say Forshaw leaving would pose us far greater short term problems.

The club have been remarkably calm about the Moore transfer and we believe there may be a twist in the tail. Either we have a loan-back arranged. Or someone else lined up. Or the club are completely confident we already have suitable backup in Bonham. Our gut says we might just see Moore back at Griffin Park for a month or two until Richard Lee fixes up. But that’s just a hunch.

The question is out now as to whether Moore will make his debut against Brentford at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening. That we feel would be a fitting end to his time at the club and the fans would welcome him warmly.

For all Cardiff City fans who want to know a little bit more about Simon. Apparently he likes camping and, according to Uwe Rosler, can often be found on the beach.
