Brentford boss Uwe Rosler today made a surprise signing to beat the transfer window.
The infamous Marcello Trotta – who missed THAT penalty against Doncaster – has returned on loan from Fulham until January
Trotta’s return is sure to divide Brentford fans and without doubt there will be pressure on the player – and his manager – to find his form quickly.
The 20 year old Italian clearly thinks he still has a score to settle in TW8 and some credit must go to both Marcello and Rosler for believing that things can go very differently this time around.
Trotta does at least know our system and has proven to be a sharp finisher – in free play anyway. He should return older and stronger, both physically and mentally. On paper he’s quite a capture.
The flip side is the gamble that Uwe has taken. The chance that bad karma could spread around Griffin Park once more if things don’t work out. It was certainly a surprise when the news came through.
Even prior to the penalty Trotta had his critics. His work rate can appear lethargic. His body language borders on the sulky. And of course he comes from Fulham.
Let’s hope come January, however, we’ll be desperate to extend the loan. Ultimately the outcome lies with Marcello himself and the manager who has backed him once more.
Rosler has been criticised by some supporters for a perceived lack of positive action in his approach. Today he’s certainly made a brave and bold decision.
