Beesotted contributor, Billy Taylor, scours the internet to dig up the latest Brentford-related gossip following their 3-1 win over West London neighbours QPR from Twitter, Facebook, the Griffin Park Grapevine (GPG) and more.
The weekend that has just passed saw the small matter of a West London derby contested between Brentford and QPR at Griffin Park.
Much of the pre-match talk was Jake Bidwell related, the man who moved across West London to Loftus Road in the summer was given a hard time by some Bees fans for not only jumping ship to our West London rivals, but also for his rather strange comments saying he wanted to prove that he could get into someone else’s team after being an ever-present at Brentford.
Needless to say, Brentford fans geared themselves up to give him a piece of their minds on his return to Griffin Park.
AMERSFOOTBEE: He will only get boos from me. But, I am quite happy to accept the money we received from QPR for him.
SONOFABEE: He’ll get pantomime boos when his name is announced and no doubt on his first touch.
I trust we find ourselves singing “Stayed here at Brentford ” and “Bidwell, Bidwell what’s the score” and especially at the final whistle but no chants of “Bidwell, Bidwell you’re a c***”
TOOBEESOMEONE: Took him nigh on 10 months to conjure up that reasoning bless him.
In other ex-Brentford defender related gossip, a stat involving Tarkowski was released this week that got a few fans chuckling.
The QPR game itself began like a typical derby with strong tackles flying in but very little quality on the ball from either side. Fortunately it wasn’t a drab affair on the terraces with the Brentford faithful getting the Ealing Road stand rocking.
It took until the 30th minute for the match to see its first goal and it came from an unlikely source. Jota swung in a corner that bounced into the path of Yoann Barbet who half volleyed the ball home in off the underside of the bar for the Frenchman’s first of the season. Cue a deafening roar from three sides of Griffin Park.
YORKBEE: barbet, didnt see that one coming
LOSTBEE: Get in there!
TEESBEE: Now watch them crumble!
The second half was a much more action packed affair. QPR had to come at Brentford giving Dean Smith’s side the chance to punish the gaps the QPR midfield were creating. Rangers thought they had leveled when Washington headed goalwards but Barbet proved his worth at the other end this time with a goal line clearance. The officials judged the ball not to have crossed the line – much to the bemusement of all associated with the away team – but Barbet admitted afterwards that it may have. Possibly. Maybe. Oh well. It wasn’t his call.
Shortly after that incident, Brentford were awarded a penalty. Jota was the man to step up and having missed from the spot at Oakwell, you could really sense the nerves that swept across Griffin Park. But the Spaniard wasn’t to be phased and calmly sent Smithies the wrong way.
2-0 Bees!
That goal was the catalyst for a crazy few minutes which saw QPR pull a goal back from a corner whilst Bees fans were still celebrating the penalty. Then for the Pride of West London to restore their two goal lead in what was the highlight of the game and had everyone talking. Yennaris hit a cross-field pass which “King Jota” latched onto leaving Bidwell in his shadow and the rest was history. The winger once again showing why he is Derby Day royalty and that it really is “beautiful , magical” when he scores a goal.
Reaction to the game can be heard on the Beesotted post match podcast below:
The defeat clearly left a bitter taste in the mouths of those in the QPR camp. Ian Holloway interestingly denied tipping Brentford to be relegation candidates when he was a pundit on Sky earlier this season while ex QPR player and now coach Marc Bircham was involved in an incident in the Braemar road forecourt after the match.
It was a derby that went the way of Brentford from start to finish making all connected with the club jubilant.Next weekend comes a much tougher contest as Brentford face bitter rivals in Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Lets hope the Bees can do the business and leave West London beaming in its true colours of red and white.
Come on you Bees!

Dear Mr Taylor
Please excuse me for being behind the times here, but what exactly happened with our favourite pantomime villain Mr Bircham? Did it involve beer flying in his direction? And if not, why not (not that I would be condoning that type of behaviour in any way, of course)?
Regards
Gordon
